I think I may have the edge in 0-60 times, but the shuttle has me on 0-10,000 mph :D
Glad the launch went well. I would not want to be sitting on millions of lbs of flammables:eek:

Umm...yes, last time I heard, 5 miles a second getting out of the Earth's orbit.
Serious power adders. Oh, and a half ton of fuel a minute.
93 octane at $3.00 a gallon? No Problem.
Thoughts and prayers for all those folks that do it for a living, Thanks!

I watched the launch of the Delta IV from the beach in Melbourne, FL back at the end of May. It is an impressive sight. Even more so was that about 150 seconds (2.5 minutes) after the launch was visible, the sound caught up to us some 25-30 miles away and shook and vibrated the area. A shuttle launch with the 2 boosters and main engine ought to be a real thrill.

If you have the Dish Network, you can watch it on TV. My favorite is all the replays they show from all the different camera angles. There is one with a close-up of the engines. When those suckers light off, the whole Shuttle launch platform has a big jolt. Wow, now that is power.

We really need that kind of power in the MM. Considering the shuttle just prior to launch, only weighs a few pounds more.
Mike.
I watched it from Home Depot in Jupiter. Another plus for living in Florida.

When the shuttle was new, I thought that the launches were the most spectacular things in the world. These days, it's the landings that I pray for.
Godspeed, Discovery, and a safe return of her crew.
