After I told my husband I saw a silver LS with a spoiler yesterday and thought it looked "wrong"...he proceded to tell me the new 04 LS would blow the doors off my MM! Was he just rattlin' my cage or what? (He likes the LS).

LS will beat the MM, however so will the Honda Accord. MM is more of a platform car to work with, not a speed demon, unless you make it one.
However, the MM looks mean and lean. LS looks like a poor man's BMW 5 series - IMHO.
My 2 cents.

OK, but what about a POST stage I mods MM? (4.10s, chip, stat, plugs, and maybe pulley) Still not a contest?
My dad drove Grand Marqs for decades - now he has an LS (00 or 01 - not sure). I tol him about my pending MM purchase (whic if all goes well I will have in my driveway tomorrow evening)
He smiled and said he looked at one but his LS would take any MM - or at least "stay right with it."
Once I have had a chance to road trip to Dennis' place I plan to stop by my dad's for a visit . . .. I don't plan on telling him what I will have had done to it. :uzi:
What do you think my chances are? :D

actually the little woman drives the ls,but she luvs to get behind the wheel of the big car. I think i need to put some louder mufflers on her car just so she feels like its more of a performance machine. But they are both nice cars that i enjoy having ownership of. Jeff

I challenge the MM vs. the L.S. We bought our MM in L.V. and were on our way home to S.D. My wife had to drive the 5.0 explorer while I cruised out front with the new MM I was excited and looking to guage the MM. I happened upon a silver 4.0 L.S. on the wide open road which there is plenty of between L.V. and S. D. This was a cool guy and he wanted to test also. The results are as follows from 60MPH I pulled him quite easily. I am sure from lower speeds it may have been different. The MM (even stock) is quicker from 60-100 than an L.S.

If you need a car that has a roomy interior,ie,you're over 5'6" tall or over 140 pounds, the LS is not the one to do a coast to coast road trip in. No flames to the LS,it's a nice little sporting sedan,I actually really like the car,but at 6'3" and 270 or so I can't get comfortable in,or comfortably INTO one,how would you like to have to sit in the rear seat behind me ,zero leg room.

Oh, pulleeaassee...Really?
Okay, I'll be kind here, show my respect for the "poor man's Beemer." A moment of silence, please, for a long forgotten hero.
Okay, we done? Cool. The crown has been knocked, the LS...Well, it..."ain't."
Meet me at any stop light, anywhere in America...I got your LS, right here. Come on folks, I mean really...
I've got a Reinhart prepared street machine, without any superchargers. I can't help it that the LS never had anyone of Reinhart's scale pay any attention to it, but that's how it goes, ya know? But if you're asking me if any LS can take me...All I can say is...come on and try. Any stop light, anywhere in America.
Like a carnival hawker..."Step right up, folks, put your money on the black car, right here, right now. You won't be disappointed."
Like I said, I got your LS right here...

A stock MM should beat an 86 Mark VII. The 4.6 will out rev the 5.0. I had a 91 LSC. Great car, like a big mustang....but my 2003 MM is faster than the Mark VII was.

Just throwing in my 2cts. I test drove a 2000 LS. Nice car. Interior layout was well, BORING!!!!! Outside looked great. Performance compared to the $43500 sticker wasnt worth the price!
I had a 98 mark 8 LSC that I traded in on MM and I drove it everyday and knew what she would do and couldnt, but when the MM hits 300rpm all bets off, and my MM is still stock!!! Hands down, MM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LS is nice car, But way over priced for what you get!
Just luv my MM. Cant wait for the 4:10 (maybe 4:30) and the chips and a few other toys!!!!!
Hope to Have Patricks Stealth Rauder ready by the end of summer!! I will post pics and that stuff when she is dune!!!!!!

The MM just has a "BAD" look to it, not that see I spent too much on my "Yuppie"/"Dink" car look, (do they even use those phrases anymore?) Speed issues aside, how many people get stares, and asked about thier LS's? Ever see someone driving circles around an LS in a parking lot? I catch guys doing it to my car ALL THE TIME.

Hey I am a big guy and the MM size is a big part of the appeal....But I like a BIG, Muscle type REAR WHEEL DRIVE...kind of car...like the Impala SS before it....
Come on who gives if you can get beat off the block by whom....go to Reinhart get the stuff or we can all go on a field trip and see Mac....whoop some arse with his.....
Bottom line...the MM is sweet! The Darth Vader of he car world! You can hear that music from the Darth Vader intro when you see one of these bad boys.....Hey Darth Vader would not beat everyone in a foot race.....but who would want to mess with him!

Jrzygrl,
The MM will easily smoke the Mk VII. Top end, off the line, or mid range.
I just traded in a V8 LS on a MM. I believe the LS would beat the stoch MM but not so sure about the modded MM with 4.10s, chip, plugs, stat, pulleys. We never ran them heads up before the LS went away. Problem I had with the LS was it constantly needed service. I knew that was not something I wanted after the warranty was over.

I had a ,02 LS V8 as a service loaner. Very nice car, but it certainly wasn't "quicker" than the MM.
It's a smaller displacement V8 as well

We have an LS-V8, albeit the smaller HP than the new '04 version. I can't say much about the new motor in the '04's, as I never drove one. But I can say that the LS-V8 predecessors had nothing in the way aof power compared to the MM. It just doesn't. It likely has the same EEC setup as the older models, if it does, the shift patterns alone make it a dog in comparison. Don't get me wrong, the wife loves it, it handles QUITE well, and provides enough power for her to get away from the vast majority of annoying drivers.

The new 03 LS V-8(04's arent out yet) is quicker than a stock MM, it runs a 6.3 0-60 time. The new Variable Cam timing and Elec. throttle control is awesome on the car, I wish they would put it on our MM's, it makes it much more responsive. With a little work the MM will certainly outrun it, I have a chip in my MM and the seat of the pants feel is about the same, the LS is quicker off the line but the MM sure comes on strong. With 4.10 gears and the chip im sure the MM would beat it by a few lengths. For those of you with a 00-02 LS, you should feel the difference in the 03, it really drives a lot different, more powerful, the interior is nicer but still needs a little more fancying up, but the biggest thing in it is the THX Audio. Id kill to have the THX/Nav system in my MM, it sounds 10 times better than the MM's audio.

I've seen the new '03 LS beat the Marauder street racing. The '03 LS has alot more hp and torque than previous years so anyone who has driven an old one can't speak until they've driven the new one, I was amazed being an owner of an '01.
However, I was looking at an '03 V8 LS, but with a $40k pricetag, I can get a new Marauder for under $25k out the door, with a few mods it can easily take an LS.

Not for nothing, but regardless of test results or graphs etc, I have never seen a LS that could beat my Marauder. I beat one but I don't know the year of it,(he quit tryin to catch up when it reached triple digits) and all those new Cadi owners that say they can beat it I don't think you can either., I will not believe it until you prove it, it looks good on paper, but it just isn't so.

Well, of course! What good would C+D be if they didn't support their number one advertiser? I love 'em.
I've lost count of the Honda drivers who have given me that special "nod" at a light, only to find out they were nodding off. I love their humble 'tude at the next stop. Among Honda owners at large, they must all believe that because they own any Honda at all, they are driving an '03 Accord when they pull up next to me. It's almost a shame, that it is so easy to spank them, it takes so little effort to correct their beliefs. I should wave them off, eh?
Give it more time, C+D will be backpeddling on their comments. I subscribe only for the humor, and "tounge in cheek" suppository reviews. If not for C+D, I could not keep myself in check. Every issue, is like a Mad magazine to any real muscle car owner.
BTW, I don't hear Darth Vader's theme while driving my MM. However, every once in a while, when I arrive at a stop light to the right of the first arrived, I am sure they hear something like the Shark's musical cue in JAWS, as the tree counts down.
Must be nerve wracking to them, wonder which one of us gets the willys first? Surely, not me.
Be it an Excel spreadsheet, or, the seat-of-your-pants, the MM has one equasion. Start with the cost of the car, add the cost of popular mods, and compare that against the competition that can match the end performance. Bang for buck, there is only one.

Interesting thread... considering the Lincoln LS's I rented (2 of them) in Florida on business trips in mid 2002 really got me seriously looking at a Ford product instead the previously coveted Acura 3.2 TL-typeS.
The interior was so-so, but was subdued enough to make it a viable BMW contender. The power was fairly nice, with the A/C off I could seriously BARK the tires on the 1-2 upshift when done manually at 6500 RPM. The engine sound was a nice change to the raspy Volvo S80 I had previously rented, or the anemic and uninspired (ie. Taurus-based) Jaguar Xtype I rented in Feb 2002. The sound system in the LS was also one of the better ones in a rental... I had Metallica's Enter Sandman playing through the radio at FULL volume with no distortion and practically bleeding eardrums. Very impressive.
But in the end, the MM has soul. The LS probably serves its purpose well as a BMW fighter... it's probably as sterile and functional as its Teutonic target. But I have a soft spot for a car that speaks to me. I owned 3 such black cars already, and this MM has easily been accepted into the fold. I haven't driven a BMW, ever, and probably never will, as it will forever be in my mind an overpriced appliance, a status symbol for the penile deficient, a poster boy for the "I got too much sand kicked in my face as a pimple-faced yuppie-wannabe-in-training" .
It's not always about what car's the fastest. It's whether you do it in style. The MM's got that in spades. You'll always know where you stand with an MM. No ambiguity. You'll never find yourself asking "is this car serious?" or "what is this car REALLY trying to convey?". As black and white as newprint, it can't get any clearer... from the honest-to-goodness exhaust note to the adhesives on the 18 inch shoes.
I hope the LS does well in its BMW struggle, it seems to be a good car. But I don't you'd ever catch anyone waxing philosophically about it the way we tend to... that's soul....

Soul is the key word here. My previous ride, a Passat V6, was a fine automobile...in the same sense a Kenmore is a fine washing machine. It was just an appliance used to get back and forth to work and didn't get a moment's attention otherwise.
Yesterday I must have spent 3 hours cleaning and polishing the Black Beauty....

Hate to have to break this to you LSON, but im afraid youre "friend" is either feeding you a line of BS or hes selling you one that got hit by a train and rebuilt using 4 different cars. Even a Ford employees A-Plan price is going to be around $26,000 IF he qualifies for EVERY rebate Ford is offering right now(AARP/Loyalty/Military App./3500), so if hes giving you $19,000 you ought to be very, very careful about what youre buying, might just be a GMQ with some 18" wheels, or a salvaged one.

Finally saw a commercial for the LS over the weekend. Lincoln claims 0-60 in 6.4 seconds for the V-8. If I remember correctly, that's the same V-8 as in the TBird. For '03 the HP is up from 250 to 280.
Also, didn't Mercury originally claim 0-60 in "less than 6.5 seconds" for the Marauder?
It's a smaller, lighter car - sure. But I'm with Sarge on this one. Even with just my low budget Reinhart mods I fear no Lincoln. Or Honda for that matter.

Lay off the Kid, he said what was on my mind, and I am sure many others here as well. I'm speaking for myself now.
This last May 10th was the 1st anniversary of the MM's debut. It's officially one year old, and many of us here paid full price for our MM. I did, and I'm not griping
If you want to come join us and share in the fun of owning one great car, you're welcome to hang.
Personally, I don't believe you either. Any MM for 19K isn't new, or, in good health, and now, I could care less on the facts.

First of all I have been reading these boards for a few months so my post count really has nothing to do with anything, just because I havn't posted, doesn't mean I havn't browsed the boards, everyone started with 0 posts.
I posted a general statement saying it was an awesome deal, even to awesome for me to believe at first, that's why I don't think its wrong of you all to doubt what I say. How it started was I was at my lincoln/mercury dealer, and they had a dealer demo for $23k in the showroom, I talked to my salesmen (who I got my current LS off of), and he told me right then and there If I wanted I could have a brand new marauder for $23k+tax. Believe it or not, doesn't matter. Than I spoke to my buddy mentioning the deal I was offered, and he told me that he was able to get it even cheaper, I asked how much, he told, I said no way, we argued back and forth, until he showed me it than I was a believer.
I use the board to gain valueable info, if I happen to share something, then don't attack me for it. I was hoping if I wound up with a Marauder, I would have a board to come to. Doubt me or not, it's not gonna change anything.
Sorry If I said anything that offended you, let this thread die.
