View Full Version : Rear Ended!!!!!

Ross

This morning I was on the freeway and BAM! A pickup truck runs up behind me and rear ends me. I was going about 30 and starting to brake because the car ahead was slowing down, and I guess the guy didn't see my brake lights. No one hurt.
The car will need a new plastic bumper and cover, new trunk lid, taillight on driver's side, maybe more.
I'm sick. At least there's insurance. I'll let my insurance company chase down the other guy's company for payment.

Dude....that really sucks! Sorry to hear about your bad fortune, but, al least no one was hurt.....that's all that REALLY matters.

I would like to offer MY meaningless advice..... do not go through YOUR insurance. It will be seen as a claim by you, and there is a potential for a rate increase....even though you are not at fault.

Get in touch w/ his agent and see what arrangement can be made. It's a PITA, but a better decision (IMO) for the long run.

VERY sorry to hear this Ross....it can be fixed where you'll never think about it again (speaking from experience)....

Uh....did you let the guy know you were an attorney just to watch the blood rush out of his head?

Man, sorry to hear about that. I tell ya, getting rear-ended is one of my biggest fears when I drive to work in the morning.. not because of getting hurt, but of the damage to my Marauder.

Some people you just can't believe what they do while driving. I've seen people read books, put on makeup, eat, talk on cellphones (obviously), read newspapers and shave.

all that is just a recipe for disaster.

That really blows man. Good to hear you are unscathed. As the man above said, get yourself to a doctor. It my be OK now, but it will hurt tomorrow.

Yeah, Northern Virginia is the pits for oblivious and distracted drivers. The oddest thing that I ever saw was a guy shaving his head on the highway -- yep --- Shaving his Head in traffic. Saw a woman doing her taxes at a stoplight once as well. UFB !!!

I stopped a guy a few years back for driving down the road and talking on a cell phone with the cardboard windshield sunshade in place!! (He had the edge of the corner bent so he could see) Went to to court and plead not guilty, he told the judge that he was removing the sunshade when he passed me. The judge asked to see his third hand!! GUILTY!! There are alot of morons on the road. I hope he took something away from the incident, other than that all cops are a-holes.

Same thing happened to me, I was horrified and felt really bad, but you will get it fixed soon and it will be as good as new, don't worry Ross, time heals all wounds, it's just another chapter in your Marauders life.

I have gone through my Insurance Co. when someone hit me and they have never treated it as my fault. This is why you pay them money, let them go after the other guy. They do not want to pay for the accident so they will make sure the other driver does or his insurance covers it.

Thanks for all the kind words and good advice. I made sure to explain to the guy at the body shop that this is NOT a GM. I told him that he needs to be sure that he gets the right parts, since we have a different trunk lid and bumper cover than the GM, and some guy ordering parts may send the wrong things in, and they may get installed, and if they do, they will have to replace them at their own expense. Reports to follow periodically as more information surfaces.

Almost had the same lousy crap happen to me today. Was at a stop sign and the crazy lady floored out of the stop sign into the traffic just as a f-150 truck was coming and they both stopped with her blocking the one way and the two stop signs accross from me. The lady panicked and attempted to reverse out of the intersection. If it had not been for my quick thinking and a fast reverse from the marauder, I would of had her nasty bumper all over my nice car.

Ross, I know the sick feeling BUT...I also know the good as new first drive after the repair. Get the best body shop. It is your right. Don't let the scumbag insurance company bully you into a cut rate job. Make it perfect and don't take delivery until it is. I baby sat my "FruitPunch" thru the operation and made it perfectly clear that perfect was just barely acceptable. I got it. Hope you do also. Dennis:beer:

Insurance companies are notoriously weak at subrogating and usually collect 1/2 the damages. You get back 1/2 your ded and are charged for an accident.

Best to put your carrier on notice, advise them you are going to attempt to collect in full from the at fault party.

Your own insurance may or may not cover a rental and if rental is covered it is usually for a limited time. The other party is liable for the rental with out limitation for a similar vehicle.

Good luck.

Nope, my insurance agent has handle it eveytime with 'no hassle' on my part. Pick-up hit twice, WS6 hit once and even had to take the WS6 back, because within 6 months the finish on the wheel was discoloring. I contacted my agent he called the other ins. co. then called me back and said take it in and tell the shop to put it down as part of the orginial claim. Maybe I am just luck, good insurance agent and good dealership.

Hopefully you don't have 3 accidents that your insurer has paid for on your insurance record.

Most insurance companies will charge more for those that have accidents that the insurer paid for.

Have the frame checked and measured on a frame machine and make sure the body vs/ frame measurements are correct. In an accident like that, the body will have shifted forward on the frame and/or the frame may be diamond shaped and need a slight pull.

Good luck!
