With the rotton customer satisfaction and sales numbers of the Ranger, when will Ford decide to either update it or take it behind the barn and shoot it?

Well, it is hard for me to comment since I have a 1996 Ranger with a 3.0, 200,000 miles and running strong and a 2003 Ranger Temor Edge 3.0 my son just drove to CA to attend his Navy post-graduate studies.

YA,
I have 2- 2.3 liter 1996 rangers, both carry heavy loads every day in my business. Both have 160k miles plus.VERY dependable.

when I was in BAlise [spell?] they had tons of 4-door long bed, "powerstroke"4-cyl. turbo-deisel rangers..I'd love to have that product here. The local said they got 35plus MPG.

Cool, but has Ford updated it at all since then?

glenn you must mean it has a 4.0....they did not put the 3.8 in a ranger......

With the rotton customer satisfaction

I only heard great things about Rangers, they need to be updated, other than that they are pretty stout.

the answer is easy. Ford makes high profit on the rangers just like the Vics, design is made, R&D is nil, and fleet customers snatch them up. And yes, they are very stout. I have customer with a fleet of about 40 2.3L Rangers with anywhere from 10K-266K, and they all just keep a runnin!

I've had three, currently an 03 Edge 3.0 5speed and a 94 2.3 XLT.
The Edge has 80k, the XLT over 200k.
I'd take the Ranger over anything in its category, period.

Both my brothers drive 4 cyl Rangers and love them. Never a problem and I think one bought his new for $8900 (with a/c). Why change it if it aint broke? As an example, I give you the hideous new Tacoma.

The Ranger was due to be redone for the 05 or 06 model year, but with Ford's cash flow troubles, it's been put off. It has had some minor freshening in 01, 04, and 06. I've had several of them for demos over the last 5 years, certainly a decent little truck ... never any major issues with the ones I've driven, which have been various engine combos, 4x2 and 4x4. Just feels really small when the previous demo was a 4x4 F-150 Super Cab!! :P
