Ok, the crab cakes thread got me thinking...

I go out of my way to take the following foods for miles to share or eat when on a trip.

My favs:

Slovenian Sausages from Cleveland to my relatives homes.

And here I thought the Oakwood Smokehouse in Leesburg Florida was a secret! The ribs are GREAT. Sometimes they put a special senior price on a full rack, and I scarf them up.

When I travel up to Rochester NY to visit family, I always make sure I stop off at "Jim & Ralphs" in Gates NY for a "Ground Round". (There are no "Hamburgers in Rochester, only Ground Rounds". I load it up with Mustard, Relesh, Onions and (only found in Rochester) (Meaty) Hot Sauce.

If I can't get to Jim & Ralphs, a close second can be had at the following.

Another thing in Rochester is Abbotts Ice Cream Custard - Great, but only sold in the Rochester area. (as are the Ground Rounds)

Speaking of Ice Cream Custard, in the Western States, there is "Caliche's". You can find Caliche's in many areas in the West. I had it the first time in Roswell, NM and it is as good as (if not better than) Abbotts.

Now I made myself hungry! :D

Lastly, whenever I visit my sister in Rochester, she makes me Banana Bread to "take back to Florida with me". Ha! That Banana Bread is so good, I eat it all up by the time I get back.

No JIB's here either. Back in Houston in the day it was the only place you could get eats in the wee hours of the morning other than coffee shop.

Many times when I was, er... in an altered state (:) ) those incredibly greasy Jack in the Crack tacos were the choice at 3:00 AM. A couple packets of hot sauce and a cold drink to wash away the burn.... ahhh.

The bonus was the alarmingly potent gas you came down with, fun for friends and room mates alike.:D

YA! the funny thing is, it is the only drunk food that tastes good sober. Burger King tried the tacos once, they failed horribly.

Ok, you guys are PROBABLY gonna think I'm a dork for saying this but White Castle, and Grease Trucks. There aren't many White Castles around here so I have to make a trek for them so whenever I'm on trips that bring me near them I always side track. Also, Maxim Magazine rated the "Fat Darrel" as the #1 sandwich in the country, so I like going to the Grease Trucks to get them and the other "Fat Sandwiches" from time to time. :D

Neither one is SUPER long distance but there ya go.

The Grease Trucks are 4 truck-like, mobile-home-like, vehicles in a parking lot at Rutgers University. They are basically like a fast food restaraunt on wheels.
