Starting out, still fairly clean!

Oh NICE!!! I just drove cross country about a month ago. I wanted to drop by Pikes Peak but I was pretty sure my company on the trip would not have enjoyed it as much as I.
That road you drive up, it is two way traffic or only one?
There were a few roads like that at the Grand Canyon and at Crater Lake in Oregon. Nice steep drop offs with no guard rails. I was surprised to see RV's driving around them.

There were a few corners we shut traction control off and threw her around! You should see the ring of mud around it in my driveway!

Very nice pics !! Those are historic photos. :bows: It's probably the first time that a Mercury Marauder has been to the top of Pike's Peak since the Parnelli Jones dash in '63-'64. Wonder if Steve or FoMoCo would be interested in those pics??

Nope, it's not. I took mine up there two summers ago, on July 5. I also did the old Trail Ridge Rd in Rocky Mtn. National Park. It IS a one way, up only, narrow little dirt road. I've still got some of that Colorado dirt riding around in my engine compartment! It's a fun ride, ain't it?

I Also Took Mine Up In July 2004. My Wife Refused To Go Above The Timber Line So I Left Her At The Gift Shop Then Drove Up The Rest Of The Way Myself. I Recommend It To Anyone That Has A Chance To Go There. It Is Really Impressive.

Well I removed my proguard, and hosed the crap off of the undercarriage. I need to take a pic of my driveway before my wife flips and makes me wash it off!

Well - COOL!!! I just finished watching a show on the History Channel I recorded on July 23 called Mountain Roads. It had segments on I70, Going to the Sun, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and of course the final segment was on Pikes Peak. It was a neat show, and with about 1 minute remaining in the show, it showed the TCE race car going up the hill!!!

Yes I was on it. But sadly it was just past the shortened finish line of 2003 when we had a strong afternoon storm. Not terribly exciting footage at 30mph! lol
There's some lower footage from this year here:

But pics from the upper section are limited.

If it was only one way wouldn't there be a huge collection of cars at the top?

Nice to see someone from Colorado around here. I live in Highlands Ranch. The mountains are the best part of living in Colorado. We are up in the hills with our Jeep almost every weekend wheeling the back country trails. I drove my MM a couple of times in the mountains and it is a blast. Nice pics. Maybe I will see you around. I work near the Tech Center and drive an 03 Black MM.

I took mine to the peak in September of 2003. What a ride, and the clay was dry so all I got was a lot of dust which washed off easily when I got back down to the Springs.

Next time I'm in Colorado, I want to go there. I was in Golden just over a year ago and enjoyed CO very much.

Word is that the road is open year round pending weather. That's changed over the years as it was closed mid Oct through April years ago. You could go up about half way and that's all. Today with the paving the plan is of course for year round access.
