While browsing thru the archives I noticed several people complaining about the sub-woofer output in our cars. Since the sub output on my MM is not the best I decided to take a look see.
Mine turned out to be installed correctly so there were no repairs needed. Below are some pics on what it should like like. Notice the package shelf has the insulation removed like it should. The last two pics are of the sub-woofer itself, one with the cone protector foam and one with it removed. This coarse foam insert should be there to protect the speaker cone.

I just removed the factory sub, built a box for a 12" sub, remounted the amp on the factory sub location and ran wires to a cheapy 100watt rms/200watt max sub. It's enough boom boom for me for now......

Yeah the stock system is lacking. Funny thing is my sister had a 1995 Mercury Sable Wagon that had a factory stereo so much better than ours. It was called "Mach" something or other and had speakers all over the place.

Guess it all depends on what you're looking for.
I mostly listen to straight-ahead Jazz, and since upgrading the 5x7s to Kenwood Excelons, and tightening
up the "subwoofer" bolts to eliminate the rattle, I've been reasonably happy.
But then, second thing I usually do in a rental car is turn down the bass. (First thing is change the station...)

I don't think it's that bad of a stock system. Somehow though, I want to install my 2 12" Kicker Comp VR's with my 1600w RMS Kenwood Excelon amp out of my CV and into my Marauder. :D
