Well, last night I made a last minute decision to head up to Mason-Dixon Dragway this morning for some test and tune with the local Mustang club. The weather was great, and last time I tried to go the track was messed up so I didn't get to run on Mickey Thompson DR's on 16" CVPI rims.

But I was able to today.

I found a small problem though, with my 4.10 gears the MT DR's are much smaller in diameter than a stock tire. While I did not run out of gear, I did notice the shift points were off to much causing my times to not be the best. I'm going to need a track-tune to adjust shift points once I calculate my new rear-end ratio. (Probably more around 4.30 now...)

So...that cost me a bit of time. Also this was only my second real run on DR's having borrowed Merc's BFG's for 2 passes back in late March.

So I was really using the test and tune. Did 4 runs getting faster each time. On my 4th run I hit a 12.99@106.2mph.

I know I have more left once I get the shift points taken care of, and on that run my 60ft was a 1.880 so I know I have more left in the tire dept as well. They kept gripping - very happy with them. (255/50/16 MT DR's)

I was probably light on it out of the hole each run, as I only came to do a few runs. I was probably more cautious than needed when launching, I seemed to be afraid to ruin a run to a spin at the line. But I'm learning the tires so better times are on the horizon.

I think I used test and tune as I was supposed to - I learned my car more, practiced launching, tried different tire pressures, etc. My last few runs I was getting pretty consistent on the tree too with R/T on the last two runs of .030 and .098.

Merc joined me as a spectator and coach, was good having him there to get some pictures and video and I appreciate him coming out to support the only Marauder running in a sea of Mustangs and Lightnings. :)

So I know 12.99 isn't breaking new ground in Marauder-land, but for me it's my first run in the 12's and reaching it was a personal goal for the year - a goal I've now met.

I don't have many pics from the event (of my car) but I do have some videos unfortunately I can't caputre them off the camera until later as I need to leave in a few minutes for something else tonight.

But I'll get some vids linked soon.

Only two pics for now, I have more of other cars, the only pic of my car I have was from behind the grand stands - literally. :)

Congratulations on getting in the 12's, is pretty fast for a car as big as ours. You did it at the hottest time of the year so I think is safe to say there are faster times ahead for you.

I didn't run my car at the event. I was there to support Mike and his quest for a sub 13-second run.

NICE!!!!!! Did you have the air ride off?????

KillJoy

Breadfan
08-13-2006, 07:32 PM
Yes air ride was off. I had it off since I got to the drag strip so not sure if it had any effect or not...can't compare to previous runs since my DR's were new. :)

BTW I had originally planned to use 16" SN-95 rims and ET Street bias-ply tires. I had trouble locating a cheap set of the rims I wanted.

Joe Walsh is the one who turned me on to the CVPI solution, as he posted here: http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=26357

I forget the overall diameter of the tire setup but it's definitly shorter as you can see by the pics/vids. And somewhat ugly but it works. :)

Maybe I'll airbrush a MM wheel design in silver paint on my steelies. :D

Nice Job Mike!

Glad to hear that the sticky tires worked out well for you!

Congratulations on joining the 12 second club, and judging by your trap speed you, should be well into the mid 12s once you get the shift points dialed in.
