View Full Version : Rear Defrost

I stepped outside this August morning and instead of the lukewarm air I'm used to at 7 AM in Kansas City, I was greeted with what the Marauder said was 58º. I had to stand and revel in the wonderful coolness that I have missed so much.

As I don't have a garage, my cars have to sit outside. So because the humidity was high on this cool morning, the Marauder was covered in dew. After starting, I pushed the button I knew would ruin my FM reception and I waited. And waited. And waited some more. Finally, about 5 lines on the driver's side began to defog. And that was it. I ended up having to wipe off the rear window so I could see out because nothing more happened.

I checked all 3 connections (I know one is the antenna, but it's good to check just the same) and all were firmly plugged in. What should I check next? Any ideas?

Check the defroster grid lines for breaks. This is also what would cause your lack of radio reception with defrost on.

If the lines cleared on one side then the connection is good from one end to the other of whatever lines partially cleared.

Maybe it just didn't get hot enough to clear the dew.

As the weather gets colder then it may work better.

I tend to agree with Jay.

The rear defroster works best with frost, ice or snow.

Mine burns the dew off at 80* in a matter of minutes!!

Unplug the plugs and reconnect to see if you may just have a poor connection or corrosion??

My old Escort does the same. It could be 70º+ and dew on the Escort and the rear defrost will remove it just fine.

I'll try cleaning and reseating them to see if that makes a difference. Problem is I probably won't be able to discern results for another few weeks.
