Rental is $273 for the Shelby. Traction control is permanently on with no way to turn it off. I guess Hertz is trying to save on tire expense. Good luck to them. You floor it, the tires start to break, then the traction light comes on the dash and it hooks up and slams you in the seat. Rated at 330 HP. Five speed automatic. Fabulous sounding exhaust. Gets attention everywhere you go. Everyone asks for a ride. Fun little ride. Surprisingly quick. Drive it like a rental!

I just got back from San Diego 2 weeks ago. We rented a V6 stang. I talked them down to 125 a day for the Shelby from the 200 they wanted but it was still way to rich for my blood. The V6 was 35$ a day.

No way I'd buy one. At the Steamboat Springs Mustang Rally 4 people had them and all did 180's and beat the crap out of them auto-xing. One guy burned the tires up so much sparks were coming from them at night from the steel belts/cords!!! They turned off the TC by pulling a fuse.

The pics I've seen of the retail version (Shelby GT) have a different hood and no spoiler. And they'll only come in black or white. :(

Rented one in Tampa last week $550/week
Didn't rent one in San Jose, they wanted $200/day 3 months ago.
My girlfriend had fun driving it too. Looks like there is a GT in her future.

according to Autoweek (i think it was that mag) they will be making around 5000 per year and in more than a few colors, TC can be turned off and they will be offered with auto or stick. I wonder if you can have a GT 350/Saleen combo - that would be rare.

I am flying to MV IV and looked into renting one in Orlando. I was able to get a quote of $500 for a week (AAA rate). Sadly I am flying home from Jacksonville so the price went up to over $1000 and I can get a convertable stang for $350 so no Shelby for me :(

I may still try to get it for a day however...

The cars will only be available after their rental contract is up. Anywhere from 6 to 12 months. And from what I read I hear the Ford dealerships have first dibs, so expect a decent markup.
