View Full Version : I'm In. Now I Wait.

I went to the Military Entrance Processing Staion down at Fort Jackson, Columbia about a month ago. I could do everything they asked, pass a weight lifting test, walk around like a duck, pass vision, hearing, drug, and HIV tests, etc.
I was supposed to book a job by the 20th of August but since there were a lot more applicants who had been waiting longer than me, I have to wait until September 1st+/- to figure out when I go to basic, what job I'll be training for and where I'll be stationed. As far as jobs I was interested in, I listed in-flight refueling, linguistics, F-15/F-16 electronics, flight engineering, and some similar things. I'd really rather work with planes and possibly get myself on track for flying some jets. I know full time requires a masters degree and being 27 years old and all the other goodies but I'd love to work for it.
I'm living at a friends house and working at a place called Jason's Deli for some good money until then. But what's all the latest around here? I heard about Kenny Brown about a month and a half ago, but other than that I'm clearly out of the loop. I hope all is well with everyone here and I'll drop in from time to time to see how it is.

Way to go James !! The USAF must be doing pretty well with recruiting if they can afford to have folks stacked up for selecting MOSs and waiting for basic. ;)
... if you want to fly in the front seat ... you should have gone the ROTC (or USAF Academy) route. Pilots, Weapons/Electronics Officers and Navigators are all officers to the best of my knowledge.

I could have done that but the Academy wasn't an option (medical disqualification on allergies plus you have to start the ball rolling junior year of HS and get a congressperson to give you sponsership) and ROTC wasn't offered at the college I was going to. I can just do what I'm doing now, the apprentice route.

Become a crew chief on a Specter Gunship or a MC130E, thats the ticket!! The MC130E flew us into Afganistan in 2001, what a ride!

Now that's a trip. I'd pay to do an operational ride along on a Spectre or Spooky.

This pictures get me all excited and jealous at the same time. Right now it's a toss up, it looks like I might book a job with Security Forces soon so I'll probably reenlist to work with planes later, I'd love to do both so this is the route I'll take. ( I know how hard it is working Security Forces but I'm still interested. )

Go SP and get in the Raven program,, its mobile flight line security, but you get to travel a lot and see some cool places. They did security for the above white plane.... and we always stayed in 5 star hotels if you get my drift.
Good luck!!
