So I'm at work today and one of the transportation guys( in which I've never swapped more than a few words with) comes up to me today and says "Hey are you into cars, you know like older ones" of course I say "yeah" he tells me that he has a bunch of old cars in his shop that his wife keeps nagging him to get rid of..So he says "I got one just for you it has no motor, but the bodys in good shape I also have extra parts for it, and I'll give to you for a couple hundred bucks" by this time I'm wondering why he is beating around the bush so I ask " well what the hell is it!" he replies " A 1964 Mercury Marauder" long story short I can pick this car up for $200

Now my dilemma... is this worth my effort? How hard would it be to come up with a drivetrain for this car? Much less the little odds and ends I might need? I have not seen this car yet..I'm gonna give it a peek this weekend .Any imput would be helpful

I'd say jump if, of course, you have the room to keep it and work on it. A drive train should't be an issue, but an original true drive train will be hard to find. At worst, if you had the space and patience, it would ebay for way over your investment.

Buy it.

It will use an FE v8 motor. The drivetrain will be easy to setup, body is the hard part.

If it were me it'd be on a flatbed already, haha, even if just to serve as a lawn ornament. ;)

It's like... get an ipod or a '64 Merc...

If you don't want it, get it for me, My Son is looking into my getting an old car to fix up for him when he gets to drive. And I have a Ford 400 in my garage just looking for a home....

Find out what else he has too.

I just put a class III hitch on my Marauder.......Road Trip!

Agreed. Buy that sucker! If not for you, for a fellow MM'er or EBay resale.

If I had that kind of deal I'd install a new drivetrain..... 4.6L w/ forged bottom end, SC and the AOD trans....

The size of that car wouldn't a 5.4 lightning engine or equivalent
be more apropriate!??

For all that sheet metal & frame, you'll need lots of torque!

I am seriously interested.... If you don't want it, take some photos and let me know.... You could make a quick $300

I spotted one locally complete and running for seven thousand.

Well the body is ugly, but it is straight. There is one small cancer spot on the back fender about the size of a half dollar, but other than that the body is straight and the frame is solid. the doors on that thing open and close more smoothly than my 03' MM. The steering wheel says "Mercury 25th anniversary" the interior is a little rough but in good shape. I'm getting a set of doors for it among other misc. parts for it. MY NEW PROJECT:D

I did not get a chance to look to see what else he had in his shop because he was not there, but his garage was open and there was a cherry 62/63?
Galaxie 500XL 4sp convertable...If you look closely there is another Galaxie wagon in front of this one, but its buried.

Buy it! It appears to have all the major trim and chrome you would need.

You didn't tell us it was a 2 door!!!! There's a 65 ParkLane with the marauder package (390 4bbl) in Auburn near flaming geyser. Get that one (probably for a song) and you got yourself a motor with marauder valve covers.

I think it would be sweet to restore it with a modern touch. Add in a modified 03/04 Marauder interior and maybe a Lightning motor.

Damn your lucky, I've always wanted a classic Marauder or Galaxie. I say throw a 390 in it or go with a 428.

Great find!

I know where to find those few parts and pieces you will soon be wondering about.

Get it home, and look for the build sheet, located usually under the dash or under the carpet, or under one of the seats...

post the numbers located on the tag inside the drivers door...
they can be decoded by members here...

Trust me, you did very well, at least in my opinion!

NICE!

Like I said before, a set of '03/04 Marauder rims would look really good on it.

Looks rough, strip it and build a period stock car out of it.
