But do they even add up?

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupe/112_0411_2005_ford_mustang_gt/specs_price.html

2005 Mustang GT.
300HP, 3520lbs, 1/4 mile in 13.6 sec@99.9mph

2007 Mustang Shelby
500HP, 4008(!!!)lbs, 1/4 at 13.4 secs@108mph

The price difference? $26k (as tested) for the GT, $51k (MSRP estimated) for the Shelby. If these numbers work out, I think I'll pick up a CAI and a tuner and go smoke some Shelby backside!
Ford? Please, please make the Snake more than "just a little quicker" than the GT, ok? Yeah, I know it's a convertable, but if I laid out THAT kind dough, I wouldn't want run of the mill GT's nipping on my heels all day.

Look at the MPH. Looks like the Shelby had a hard time hooking up and then had a lot of ground to make up.

My brother just took delivery last Friday of a Shelby vert, white and loves it!

It some how thing most owners are going to be upset by the numbers?

I agree for the extra money you think?

Man, I hope that's it, 'cuz I don't drag race. What little bit of leadfooting happens with me, though, usually starts at a streetlight and ends at whatever the nice sign has the limit posted at.
Looks like the GT is more than able to keep it's own end up under those conditions, and might possibly scare a few Shelby owners in the process.

Too much price difference to justify it for me. Get a V6 and add PSI! :D

Now there's an idea for the "sleeper" crowd. Too late for me, I've already got the GT, but with a pressurized 6 making fine horsepower AND not giving an inch in the handling dept...
Sounds like a recipe for fun!

What was the Humid and Temp? That can make .75 difference.

IF it is a manual the diver can make a .5 sec diff.

Well, if you really want to talk price and 1/4 mile numbers most people here who bought a used Marauder and blower and are hitting low 12s for a lot less than Shelby owners are shelling out... so there ya go... Not to mention the Marauder's production numbers are considerably lower than the Shelby will be at the end of its production.

Several car magazines have tested the GT500 at 12.7 and faster. The time with Car & Driver is just plain bad driving. The GT500 is a low 12 sec car with a little work and DRs.

Durring the recent Mustang car show here we ran my dads 05 Roush (4.6 3v) with just a Vortech S-trim that I installed with a JMS Chip SCT tune (everything else is completely stock) vs a GT 500 Vert from a roll and we walked away from it!!!! I wasn't quite sure if he was trying but the 2nd run I could hear that blower screaming and we were just creapin away. 70-130ish (3rd-4th) Then my friend who's a performance car dealer came into one to re-sell and had it at his shop for a week. It was VERY disapointing in person. The dash is cool being leather wrapped. The ride height is just plan rally style, and the air splitter and side skirts are cheap unfinished molded plastic. The best part is the engine and front bumper/grille.

The stupid thing is that people are paying insane $$$ for these cars and I think ford is going to produce quite a few. I remember when 03' cobras were going for 10k over MSRP now you can find them in the low-mid 20's on ebay....
