Study Says 70% Of People Who Belive Conspiracy Theories Have Some Mental Health Issue
August 19, 2006
A study released today by the American Mental Health Association shows that 70% of people who believe in a conspiracy theory have some sort of mental health issue. This is study coming in the days weeks after a poll was released saying that 1/3 of the American people believe our government caused 9/11.
Dr Dave Mertle conducted the study, which he said, came up with some suprising results.
“20% of the subjects studied were found to have some form of paranoid schizophrenia, mild or severe. Another 20-30% were found to suffer from some form of an anxiety disorder.” Dr Mertle went on to state that almost all the 70% who came back positive for a mental health problem suffered from some form of depression.
“The problem here isn't that these theories are bogus, it’s the people who are prone to believing them. These people all have some serious issues that lead them to become very paranoid. It’s very sad actually, many of these people live normal lives, but they are always looking over their shoulder because of some ridiculous notion that people are out to get them.” Dr Mertle stated.
In addition to the study, all those diagnosed with a disorder will receive some form of therapy in the coming months.
