These 'necks' were actually pretty smart.

They saved the motor and cab from flood damage.

Why is it you just know the phrase "Hey y'all looky here" was uttered right before this was snapped.http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=98 50&d=1156977263

Being this was just one of those for gits & shiggles fun type threads .....

I guess it's ok to highjack this thread a bit.

Curiosity was killing me ... so I went on a mission to find out where that redneck Toronado pic came from.

I found it here. (http://hogrockcafe.com/redneck_photo_album.htm)

And strangely enough doing my daily point & click armchair stroll thru Ebay ...

I came across that EXACT same NON-redneck 72 Toro above that I posted. The photo was from a Collector Car Trader ad(another one of my favorite armchair strolls).

It was just listed today ....

Ebay - Bamboo 72 Toro (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180024007644)

It is the same car ... no doubt. It has been for sale for quite some time ... could have sworn the CCT ad was from a dealer tho ... the Ebay auction looks like a private seller. The CCT ad is no longer up as of today either.

Looks like a really nice car ... although the seat fabric & the engine paint color is not original. I really love the stance on this one. Many older large cars are often dragging their tails so to speak. This one is not doing that at all ... it's got the perfect rake to it.

My father bought a 72 with this exact same exterior color combo back in 1978 when I was only 6-7 years old. The interior was solid brown tho, unlike the 2-tone of this Ebay car. Fell in love with that car within a years time ... thus the reason I own one today.

My father's Toro didn't stay "Bamboo"(official Olds name for that color in 72) for long tho. It needed some minor body work here & there ... & at some point in 1979 ... my father had the body work done, & had it re-painted in a color closer to that of 72 Olds "Baroque Gold" ... which is on this Ebay 72 442 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260025772815) shown below. Ignore the hood on this 442 if you visit the auction & view the pics with it closed, obviously the paint doesn't match.

Someday ...

When I have money burning a hole in my pocket(yea right) ... I will more than likely re-paint my 72 Toro Baroque Gold. The triple black is nice ... but I really like that Baroque on the 71-72 Toro body ... & I think it will look even better with the black top & interior.

The Bamboo exterior with a saddle or tan vinyl top was very common on the 71-2 Toro. Since I was old enough to drive ... I've probably looked at a dozen 71/2's to buy before I bought my triple black one. Half of them were the Bamboo topped off with a saddle or tan top with the brown interior.

In fact .....

Here's another Bamboo (http://adcache.collectorcartraderonli ne.com/10/9/8/81268598.htm) 72 for sale on CCT. This one is from a dealer.

Dealer link (http://www.midwayclassics.com/1972_olds_toronado.htm)

It also has been for sale for quite some time. Seems every time you think an ad for it on-line has dropped off for good ... it ends back up on-line again. This & the other Bamboo one ... seem to keep finding me time & time again.
