Be easier to get a mini 12V PC w/wireless and a Sprint connection. 7" TFT LCD is dead fit to dash. Steering wheel control can go thru serial. WinXP could do everything he complains the linux can't.

What stopped me? Boot time. Pioneer AVICD1 does all I need.

I personnally use the Ecplise unit dvd/navigation unit....

but having the ability to tap into the internet would be really nice...

I have heard really good things about sprint cell phone and their internet connections...

I'll have to snap off some pictures of my CarPC setup for the Marauder. I've got the 7" Lilliput with a Transflective Upgrade on the screen so it is readable in broad daylight. PC is a Micro ITX board with 1GB of memory and a 3.2GHz Intel something-or-other cpu. Very small, runs directly off the +12V car system. I also hunkered down and spent a lot on amps, speakers and also got the Alpine C701 / H701 system. Can't wait to get it all installed!

System is running Road Runner as a front end.

Yup. And priced about the same as a typical in-dash nav when done. I was really on the fence, but decided on a Pioneer in the end. Decision makers were: boot time, shock/enviro considerations, last but not least I was previously sponsored by Pioneer years ago and just took the easy way out!

In car PC is very do-able for us, esp with our big a$$ hole in the dash. Just boils down to personal lifestyle prefs.

Will soon be adding this to AVIC-D1 with a 120-ish G drive. Should be plenty for all multi-media needs.

Linux can do that all he just needs to be more of a programmer. ;)

Still cool, I got a few more from years past. Never wanted to do this in the MM though, I almost did one in my Grand Am though, was also going to use an aux tranny cooler and lines to watercool it (12v pump, seperate coolant from any other source of course).

Just couldn't bring myself to hack up the MM...as mentioned some of the in-dash units are so very nice these days and can do as much. Agreed you also gotta spend the extra dough to get a true wireless air-card through Sprint or Verizon. :)

Seen some real cool implementations though!

Talk about reviving a dead thread! I finally got the above mentioned stereo gear and system installed in the car. Looks like it only took 2 years to get it done! Boxes were dusty but it sounds good.

Can't wait to show it off at MVVI!
