Correction, it was a Caddy, they never specified which one IIRC, but if you're referring to the car that Elwood picks up Jake in at the beginning of the movie that was in fact a 74 Monaco

SCMODS.

Hmm memory fading, but I think it was "I'm Walking" by Fats Domino

And who played the guard returning Jake's personal effects when he's being released from jail?

I heard about Uncle Toms from a co worker, he was stationed in the ATL years and years ago, apparently the place was pretty notorious for brawls and such. He was also a BB fan, and a trivia nut.

Actually, they filmed at both locations, I'd have to see the film again.

Oh, and that bridge where the Pinto full of Nazi took off, that was the 26th Street extension into McCormick Place at Lake Shore Drive. It's gone now too. Can't say where they filmed the "landing", have to watch the film again.

BTW interesting side note. All the police cars except the "Lake Wazapamoni" car, were actual in-service units. Those scheduled for retirement were smashed and replaced, those just in chase scenes went back to work.

Question: Where's the real "Palace Ballroom"?

South Shore Country club? Does that sound right?, I thinks its a community center now, I visited a few years ago on a business trip.

As for the bridge to nowhere, actually its the Hoan Bridge in Milwaukee.

news article here (http://www2.jsonline.com/news/metro/dec00/nowhere14121300a.asp)

The drop of the Pinto was actually done at McCormick, but the driving off the bridge, Milwaukee.

I can't believe I went out and bought another copy of this film on DVD today, just to play. But, I can't remember who I loaned my original too. Just as well, I got the 25th Anerversay edition for 14 bucks. On with the show...

That city is your beat so I'll trust you on it, commonly its been reported as the East 95th street bridge, but I don't know that for sure. We're both right. In the scene prior to the bridge jump, they are on East 95th, and the bridge is identified by a plaque. The restaurant in the background as Jake and Elwood argue, is Henie Mc Carthy's Shrimp House, on East 95th. However, the jump was filmed on the East 103rd bridge, it's almost twice as long in approach and landing area, and industrial.

Cutting room magic, eh?

ex00p71

No, he hates Illinois Nazis.

So for the one I partially answered, is it a black and white 1974 Dodge sedan with Illinois plates?

I guess I have to ask a question also

What could the band turn into gasoline, and what was Jake in jail for in the first place?

John Landis has a thing for Frank Oz (muppeteer for the green one and Mrs piggy)

He (Mr. Oz) has a cameo in the beginning as the personal effects clerk in the prison.

I guess I have to ask a question also

What could the band turn into gasoline, and what was Jake in jail for in the first place? Jake got 3 years for robbing a gas station in Berwyn, Illinois, to pay the band for it's last gig. Jake didn't come back, and band members (again) had to pay their bar tab.

Wrong.

It never worked. After getting into the car he put it up to his cigarette, looked at it, and tossed it out the window. After jumping the bridge he said to get the cigarette lighter fixed, as he lit his own cigarette with a lighter from his pocket.

When they are in the penguin's office after being beaten by the measuring tool..."Measuring tool"...LOL!

It's a "yard stick", dude, a 36" long wood ruler. In shorter versions, from 12" to 18" long, known just as a "ruler", the official sidearm of any "penguin". Her second weapon was the traditional birch 4' long map pointer, likewise lethal to any 8th grader.

The dialogue isn't that clear on my DVD version, but the suggestions posted are out of sync with the history of the slang in use 26 years ago.
