Unfortunately, one of our NYS Troopers has died from a gunshot would inflicted on Thursday. He was shot in the leg, rupturing his Femeral artery. ON Saturday, his leg was amputated in an attempt to save his life. More than 100 units of blood were adminstered in the 3 day attemt to keep Joseph Longambardo alive. Sadly, he died Sunday evening.
Another Trooper was shot through his kevlar vest, (by the same gunaman) and sustained injuries. He has recently been upgraded from Critical to Serious condition.
There has been a manhunt ongoing since April of this year, in search of Ralph Philips. In April, he escaped from Alden Correctional Facility, 15 minutes from my house) where he had three more days to serve on his conviction for stealing cars and other buglery charges. One day after his escape, a NYS Trooper pulled him over on a routine traffic stop, and was shot in the abdomen with a handgun Philips had acquired. That Trooper is still recovering....
Last night, NYS Troopers converged on a train in the Town of Hamburg, NY (15 minutes from me). They suspected this Philips character had hopped a train in his attempts to allude the law.
Ralph Philips is of Native American decent, and is resourceful, armed and dangerous. He knows his way around the forests of WNY and likely Northern PA.
Be aware out there, and pray this Aschole gets captured very soon.
