Does anyone know what the plexiglass across the hood of the japanese Skyline functions as. Doesnt look very aerodynamic to me. Thats the same thing the Michigan Troopers do to thier hoods....

Makes the people they hit fly over the windshield instead of into the windshield?

The familiar blue MSP Patrol Car is referred to as "the goose" by members of the department. As of 2006, the department's fleet consists of primarily Ford (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford) Police Interceptors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Crown_Victoria_Police_Int erceptor). However, the MSP has begun adding Dodge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge) Charger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Charger_%28LX%29) patrol vehicles to its fleet (10 for the 2006 fiscal year). The department also utilizes the Chevrolet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet) Tahoe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Tahoe) for canine and motor carrier use. Several other varieties of vehicles, including Chevrolet Suburbans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Suburban) and Impalas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Impala), are used by the department's specialized divisions. Fully-marked patrol vehicles feature a single red overhead light that rotates when activated. MSP vehicles also feature a clear plastic device, referred to as a "shark fin," on the hood that lights up when activated. Patrol units also use red and blue LEDs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LED) facing to the rear of the vehicle, as well as headlight and tail light flashers.
The MSP also utilizes "slick top" patrol units for traffic enforcement. There are two types of traffic cars: the traditional blue patrol car sans the traditional "gumball" light, and a semi-marked variety that is painted in colors other than blue and marked only on the passenger side. Available in tan, red, white, silver, and black, these units also use hidden LED lights to increase their effectiveness and have been extremely successful.
Both the rotating overhead light and the shark fin have traditionally been synonymous with the MSP. The shark fin was used for a side stop, which was employed when a Trooper was stopping another vehicle. The Trooper would pull along the driver's side of the vehicle he or she wished to stop and would activate the shark fin's light, alerting the other driver that he was to pull over. The side stop is no longer used by the department. The rotating red light has been used by the MSP since 1960 and the current style red overhead light has been in use by the agency since 1979. The red overhead lights on some MSP cars are 20-25 years old. Both the blue hue of the patrol cars and the red hue of the rotating overhead light are distinctive and unique to the MSP; the department has used the blue paint scheme and the current door decals since 1956.

Got that from wikopedia cause I was curious about the so called "shark fin" on the Michigan State troopers car. As you can see they no longer use it but I bet it was pretty cool when they did except to see it in action would mean you were getting pulled over.

It's got a cop motor: a 440 cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses. :coolman:

I was just issued a dark silver unmarked Charger with the police package. It only has the 6 cyl but its a nice car. We are currently waiting for Whelen to complete some custom made lights. With the police package the shifter is built into the dash, takes a little getting used to.

Maybe a HUD like in a Fighter plane????

I think some of the trooper cars in the one of the Smokey and the Bandit movies had this but it was length wise instead of across the hood.

I'd be scared to be in front of that Mach 1! With that Porsche I posted, if that's the Carrera S, I believe that's RWD right as opposed to AWD?
