It has been pointed out to me that the moving flag in my sig. (gif file) was affecting some members' ability to view the site correctly at their end. Having seen moving images in other members' sigs, I didn't think it would be a problem. Also it always looked fine at my end.

Being as the image was hosted on another site, the problem probably lay there. Anyway, it has now been removed.

I would publicly like to thank the member concerned for pointing this out to me in a tactful and gentlemanly manner. Also this is something for other members to watch out for.

The Canadian Navy consists of 4 Victoria Class Subs, 12 Halifax Class Frigates, 4 Iriquois Destroyers, 2 Protecteur Class Hospital/Refuelers, 12 Kingston Class Coastal Defence ships, a bunch of sea kings and Aurora's for air rescue and surveillance.

Canada's Navy has always been geared almost exclusively to a coastal defence and battle group support role. Why bother with anything else when you live next to the world's most advanced military?

PS - Logan is Canadian with a couple family members in the Canadian Military, Hence a stupid amount of knowledge about our rinky dink military. Don't even get me started on our air force... Ugh.

Yes, TripleTA...
I was with the Canadian Submarine Squadron from Feb '83 to Mar '88. Logan's right on the money with his account of the Canadian Navy. However when I was in, the Subs were "Oberon" class boats bought from the UK in the mid '60s. Hence the "side door" entry into Canada for Brit Submariners.
Amazing how that thread got off topic...All I wanted to do was to apologize to all for messing up the board with my stupid gif file.
Interesting notes:

The 4 Victoria Class submarines that Logan mentioned were also bought from the UK in the mid 90s, but due to ongoing safety/structural concerns none of the 4 are operational yet (as far as I know).
Who knew Logan was Canadian? We should be asking him how a Canuck wound up in TX. That's a lot stranger than a Limey ending up in Canada.

Windsor is almost a suburb of Detroit with a skinny stretch of the Detroit river separating us. You could almost throw a rock from Windsors riverfront and hit GM World Headquarters in the Rennaisance Center. Hmm...not a bad idea...maybe when I finish work.

yes, there is a seaworthiness problem with a lot of Canada's fleet. Especially the newest vessels.
Not to mention the Helicopters that can't fly
