Can you guys post:
1) What mufflers you put on, including part number if possible.

2) Honestly explain what the difference in the sound, how much louder, how much throatier, tone, etc.

Like you all know, you can search and bring up things from the site in little pieces, but a lot of it is what people think will work, so thats why I am looking for folks that have actually swapped the mufflers. Flowmaster, dynomax, 2 chamber, 3 chamber, etc... I like the idea of a LOUD throaty exhaust note, but I have a couple of kids, one a baby, so I cant do something to aggressive. So I need a nice loud sound that doesnt invade the cabin to badly.

As always, thanks for your advice....
Dave

Dave I put on 18" stainless steel Magnaflows. I got a deeper sound but it was quieter than the stock mufflers. I then put on the tips w/o the resonators and I get a nice deep throaty sound.
Sounds good at idle and is quiet with no in car resonance at 75 mph. 14" with the newer tips might be too much. I am pretty happy with the sound now.

FourthHorseman has Flowmaster 40 series on his car with the stock tips and likes the sound. Others are going with the Rav 55's. Some with OEM tips others with the newer ones.

I can tell you my setup is not as agressive as I wanted but its damn close. In this case I would rather be close than have too much. I'm sure others will post what they have. I can tell you its almost impossible to pick one setup over another without actually hearing it. Good luck.

I have Flowmaster 40's with Stock Tips, Sound at idle is just a bit louder that stock, under regular throttle sound is good but not loud, on the highway no drone, just a little rumble in the cabin (and that is with 4.10's). You really notice the sound if the windows are down, nice but not too loud, It is however different if you are following the MM, Oh yea that's the sound I like. I like the sound and so does my wife, she says "as long as it doesn't sound like the Vette with the no-cat, no-muffler exhaust, fine with me". I have not been able to compare any other exhaust with mine, so you may want to wait until some more MM's chime in. My 2cents.

Yup, Flowmaster 40s with stock tips here, as well, as Wolf said. There are at least two threads discussing this very thing already. Might want to do a search on "mufflers" or "flowmaster." I'm sure you'll find the threads where we talk about it.

Anyway, I haven't tried any other brands but I can definitely vouch for the sound generated by the FlowMasters. I'm very happy with mine. Find a good shop to do the work and I think you'll be happy with your results.

Installed the Ravin Z-55s a while back, added my new tips yesterday. It's a little difficult for me to express if this is loud or not, but I DO like the tone, and the grumble. If the MM is a reach back to the spirited old days, I'd say my MM just got a set of Cherry Bombs. It does sound just like the sample at the Ravin web site, for the Mustang. www.goravin.com

I'm with Serge. The car has a nice rumble on start up, initial acceleration and upon decelleration (spelling?) however at cruise the car is quite with no droning. Very pleased with the Ravin - Megs w/o Res combo.
