Anyone know of a good heavy duty luggage rack for the decklid of the MM? As a second choice, anyone have good experiences with any top mounted luggage racks? I don't want to mess with a trailer.
Thanks!
Here ya go....

Yes! Thanks! I'll read it over. Interested in anyone's take, experience or thoughts.

Anyone know a vendor that sells one? What I really had in mind was something I saw on a caprice years ago; it hooked onto the window side of the decklid and underneath a part of the trnk latch, nice and removeable. But I could drill into the trunk, though I'd rather not have chrome.

LOL! I personally don't think much about the spoiler, the silver stuff on the bottom panel, the chrome rims of any kind, or most any of the other show-n-shine mods; I don't go into people's threads putting them down because I do respect the work that goes into the total package though. Especially the silver ones, they really do look sweetest IMO.
My MM is a workhorse, it has to take 4 people, 2 hounds and a week's worth of gear for hunting trips. Last year we tried it as-is, and we needed more room. Had to leave several traps and such at home :( and had to give away some nice pork because we couldn't take it back.
I'm open to any suggestions for how to haul gear. A trailer would work, but that is a real headache. If they made a station-wagon version I could do it with a roof rack. I may have to settle for just a roof rack. I have also thought about one of those shelf things that fits in a class V hitch, but how much will they hold on a mercury mount?

Maybe a bike or ski rack that goes on the roof and modify it to fit your needs....that way you can remove it and no holes. Just my 0.02.

You've got to get LOT more creative with your "requests".....

Scott, back when we were preparing for our recent Yosemite camping trip, I looked around to see if
anyone had a roof rack that would fit the MM (or CV or LM). Didn't find one. I don't know if it's because
of the way our roof doesn't have anything to grab onto, or just 'cause so few people with these kind
of cars ever want a roof rack. But neither Thule or Yakima have any mountings available, either for
the roof or for the trunklid. IIRC, Sears didn't either.
I suppose something could be made to fit, after all, cops put light bars up there. But I expect that
would involve drilling holes, and I wasn't quite up for that.

I have seen the CVPI's with lights that dont need holes drilled other than for the power wire that goes thru the pilar.

:dunno: How about that empty space behind the bumbper where the proguard goes. Try to figure out a way to stuff some stuff under there!?!?!:D

I think it will hold quite a lot. Try searching here for more info, I know several members have gone this route and are happy with the results.

Some members that have trailer hitches use a platform that inserts into the receiver hitch. Maybe pm jdando. I know he uses one for his racing tires. I've seen pictures of his and others.

Perhaps a Truck or a SUV would be BETTER vehicle options for your needs????

Yeah....and those tires can weigh quite a bit.

There are removable trunk racks for small cars like the Miata and BWM Z3, they probably would not fit. I googled quick for a universal one but couldn't find them. Something like that might suit your needs and not damage you trunk lid, and be removable when you don't need it.

That is what I found too :(
I hate drilling into cars because eventually they always seem to leak. But I could.

Thanks everyone for the ideas, especially those making me rethink the hitch grate. I will look closer at the hitch platform. I just assumed they wouldn't hold several hundred pounds of verticle weight (the hitch iself, not the rack). Maybe they will? I suppose I could be careful about how I stowed things.
Actually, the more I think about it, that would give me the option of pulling a trailer as well, which might be in the future.
Keep em coming. And no, I don't plan on a lift kit and 4x4 (though it would be unique :) )

Ask CRUZTAKER....
he's the man with the hitch and platform. Carries his big round softies to the track on it.
Then you could get a bike rack to plug into the hitch too.

Try Enterprise-Rent-A Car for the trip. Save the Marauder!!!

Hmmm...I was gonna ask "how much crap do you need to haul?"...but you apparently haul alot.
I think the solution is an SUV. I mean realistically...who goes camping/hunting in a full sized rear drive muscle car?
I have the hitch, but any more than 250lbs and you can really feel it at highway speeds.

+2..Jeremy has the nuts. This might be just the ticket for you. Works like a charm for him. Also Shakes_26 has done some research on this I think. Dennis. Good luck.:)

Yeah, I was thinking an F250 Crew Cab. :D 'Cause I figured getting rid of a couple friends or the dogs was out of the question. ;)

Actually I traded an F250 PS for this car and some cash. The F250 was too big to fit in the garage. It was also difficult to maneuver, and this fills the bill when I have to drive clients around. Plus the truck was too squirrely on the dirt track ;)
I went outside last night and started arranging things to see what I can change. If the grate will do 250# safely enough that would go a long way. I still want to see what kind of rack I can get. I would have thought there was surely a taxi supplier or something that had what I wanted.

I do, for one. Pretty much every camping destination has some really tasty roads leading into and out of it.
If I can fit my stuff in the trunk of the Marauder, why on earth would I want to wrestle a bloated SUV around
those roads, when I could be enjoying them? So I can pretend I go offroad?
Oh, and an added bonus- I don't need much space to get around those who think turnouts are for somene else.

Don't forget the added benefit; people assume you are a game warden and the trash clears out fast ;)
