I never understood that pricing structure to begin with. Always thought of it as a silly sales gimick.

It's a sales and marketing gimmick that plays on how most people tend to view/evaluate things for price. We see it all the time .....

Remember back when some things were 29 cents or 99 cents. The item really wasn't $5.00 because it was $4.99. Somehow, our brains focus on that first number where the dollars are.

Even today, things are priced at $199.95 or $299.99.

Superchargers are listed as $5995 or $6995 --- ain't that really $6K and $7K?

How about car prices --- Only $29,995. Seems pretty close to $30,000 to me.

And we even see it in housing prices --- New Homes from $499,900. I can handle that price; but I would sure have a problem with 1/2 Million.

The technique must be very well known to marketeers because it is so prevalent. There is probably a whole educational course on creative pricing in the marketing field. ;)

I think the 9/10 cent was the original Federal tax back in the 40's and 50's and instead of rounding up they just added a penny every time the wanted more??

All the pumps were originally set up for 9/10 cents when gas was 9 or 10 cents a gallon and due to the fact it would have been a dissaster to change all the pumps in the country....it simply stuck for all these years??

Now they can drop it anytime since the pumps are digital.....I wonder why everybody doesn't just round it up??:shake:
