I am curious if any with the Valentine 1 system how they feel with the unit. I am reading this is a "5 star" unit?????

I love it. I've used radar detectors for many years and have one hardwired into each of my cars so it is powered up when the key is turned on. The other units are mostly the cheaper ones and they give enough false alarms that I occasionally get a ticket because I ignore it. Not so with the V1. Very seldom do you get a false alarm, so if it tells me something is up there i react and over 90% of the time I see a cruiser in a few seconds.

Mike Valentine (principal- Valentine 1) was formerly with Escort.

I have used both systems and Mike's is simply the BEST available detector on the market!!
Certainly more expensive than all the rest...but the tickets avoided will more than offset the price difference in the long run.
However, with 'instant-on/off' radars (such as Missouri HP) you have to really be alert for the patrol car, etc. or you will be zapped!! VR1 will only confirm the 'hit'.
Good luck and keep a sharp eye...OR just DON'T SPEED!!

"DON'T SPEED????" That is definitely not an option!!! I do not know about the V-1, I have heard good things, but I have a Passport 8500 and I will swear by it. Always gives plenty of time to react. I suffer from "lead foot syndrome" and have not bee cited since the 8500 was installed!!!

I'm satisfied with the performance of the Valentine; I run it in conjunction with a Cobra CB.

Last speeding ticket? 1990, Royal Oak Michigan, 5 mph over. And yes, I really was doing 30 in a 25 zone and no, the LEO's don't have to give you a 5 mph "leeway". If they do, it's a courtesy. In this case they were having a bit of a crackdown, it was in a school zone - and the LEO was perfectly justified in writing me up.

Of course, it was a bit insulting - I was driving an 87 Chevette at the time <g>. If one is being written up, one would prefer it to be somewhat more spectacular than for 5 mph over on a city street in a Chevette...

I've had Escorts and Unidens, but find I prefer the Valentine. Your mileage may vary.

Valentine One is the best I have had/used in 30 yrs.
Wish I had more interstate time with it and my Marauder. That issue should get resolved this summer. :D

Hey, thanks for all the responses guys! I have yet to hear anyone with anything negative to say about this detector. Sounds like this one is a winner!

I've heard only great things about the detector... but here on the Shore, you should be careful. Deerejoe pointed out the "instant-on" radar of some agencies. Alot of our Monmouth/Ocean County PD's use the Stalker 2 radar systems. I've had great useage out of it and have conquered many-a-detector.

Just keep in mind that a detector will only go off if the cops radar unit is on and transmitting a signal. We're trained to get a visual of a vehicle with a high rate of speed before transmitting our signal. This way, your detector doesn't detect anything until it's WAY too late. Once I hit my little transmit button, your speed comes back to me in a fraction of a second.

So, the best way to avoid a summons is to not speed. But hey, that's like abstinence as a form of birth control... NOT FUN!! I'm actually going to buy a V1... I believe they are worth the money.

yea, where i live, the town cops have instant radar (where detectors DO NOTHING), but the county cops radar is always on so it helps on the sunrise hwy. is the valentine a concealed system? im thinking of getting one of those. for now my walmart radar detector does it for me, and since i work for the town cops and they all know my car i dont really get pulled over (or atleast ticketed) too much:). NOW STATE TROOPERS are a whole new ball game. they are VERY strict and thats who I get the most tickets from. NOT FUN :(

I just have one question for the constable...you mention you have 15 percent window tinting all the way around...I was under the impression that in Jersey unless it came from the factory with the tint on the driver and passenger windows, it was illegal? You wouldn't be a Howell cop would you?? I was pulled over in Howell about 3 weeks ago. The cop tells me he thought my front windows were tinted. When he realized he made a mistake he politely appoligized.I just wonder how a patrolman and upholder of the law would view this issue??????

I read an interesting article about "instant on" radar. There may also be an article on the V1 web site.
Seems "instant on" does not always give accurate readings as the set needs to be warmed up for accuracy. "Instant on" doesn't allow it to do that.

A real tough argument in front of the magistrate...best way to win is: DON'T GET CAUGHT SPEEDING!!

Valentine is the best, once you have the directional arrows you can never go back to a normal detector.

No, I don't work in Howell... but they have quite the hard-a$$ reputation --- "Drive through, get ticket." I'm suprised he apologized to you instead of writing you for having wheels that were too shiny.

As far as my view on the tint? I feel that as long as you can see out of your windows at night (15-20%)... you're fine. I have yet to issue a summons for tinted front door windows. BUT... it's a great reason to stop someone. Same with not having a front license plate attached to the vehicle. I won't write a ticket for it, but I'll sure as hell stop someone for it. And when the stop happens... "Sir, you know that's illegal in NJ, right? OK... as long as you know. Get that taken care of before someone writes you a ticket for it. Drive safe." Vrrroooommmm.

The way I see it --- I'm a car guy. If "it" makes the car look good or perform better (and DOESNT interfere with functionality or safety) then go for it.

Love the V1. I've also supplemented my V1 with a K40 Laser Diffuser. This unit confuses the laser long enough for you to slow to the speed limit, or at least to a speed where they won't bother you. Just got back from a run to Ohio, where all the HP cars have Laser. I got tagged at 85, but slowed to 70 before he got a good reading and just motored on by. This happened several times on I70, I75, and then the Ohio Turnpike. No stops.
