Jacob over at CVN ask Darryl and I if we had heard from L/M about this. When we checked our Marauders sure enough both of them were sagging. Now the recall is for fleet cars but if both of ours were sagging it makes you wonder........................ .....................

The 05S32 recall is issued for "Certain 2003 – 2005 model year Crown Victoria Police Interceptor (CVPI) and Commercial Heavy Duty (Taxi) vehicles built at the St. Thomas Assembly Plant from October 10, 2001 through December 14, 2004."

Funny you should mention this as I was under the car after Todd and Bryan finished the exhaust.....admiring their work and I noticed this insulation on the passenger's side had all but disintegrated and was very crumbly!!!:argue:

It will be interesting what they decide to do....if anything as it looks like it will be tough to replace??

Mine is FUBAR too but I had thought it was just because of the exhaust change creating more heat... go figure

I will have to look closer at this on my MM. Back a couple months ago, I noticed a very distinct burning odor when I exited the car on the driver's side. Even posted about it. At the time, I couldn't pinpoint an exact cause. Haven't noticed it for awhile.

Here are some similar posts. This was first posted during June 2005.

How interesting because on my driver's side that sound insulating stuff is about a 1/4" or less from sitting on top of the first cat. Passenger side looks ok for now I'm going to look into this.

BTW, if you have custom exhaust, don't waste your time asking to be included in the recall.

Why would a custom exhaust system void this recall? As far as I can see, it's not the exhaust that is being recalled...

They'll Claim that the extra heat from your exhaust is what caused it

They'll Claim that the extra heat from your exhaust is what caused itRight you are my friend. Then it turns into conflict, argument and review by higher authority. In my case, I have better ways to spend my time, but I do not mean to influence any others who may wish to pursue this issue. If it applies to your MM, go for it?

I noticed it while I was replacing my exhaust. I wonder if it's better to just rip it all out than to leave it when it can cause a fire. It's only sound insulation so I can't imagine it being too important.

There are better insulators out there honestly that you can replace it with. On my race mini we have dampener that almost looks like dynamat, hell might be the same idea, the fiber stuff ford uses is all well and good, but better can be had for not too much hastle... just my .02

Yeah, I'm sure there are better insulators I'm just wondering how concerned should we be about this? Are the chances of fire the same as the F-150 cruise control problem? If so I'm going to rip that all out right now. I'd rather go a little while without and not worry about a fire than keep it till I have a replacement but run a risk of one.

IMO FMC will try to recall as few vehicles as possible. They use the term "certain".

take a peice off and put a torch to it and see what happens, short of that I would go to the dealer or somethin

You're probably right, Sarge, but in my experience, most dealers are so ignorant about these cars that they wouldn't know a stock exhaust from a custom one.

Sounds ike a fun job removing it tho. what was this insulation protecting?

If anyone actually get a dealer to fix this please post it here. There is no way my dealer will do anything unless I can prove other Marauders got it fixed as well. Even then it's a long shot.

Here we go again list the fleet vehicles and screw the little guy..
That would be typical ford thinking!!

If it is a "safety recall" they cannot legally refuse to perform it on any car no matter how modified it is. I process recalls for my company and work with with the federal safety admin quit a bit, and we have had to perform recalls on vehicles that were far from stock.

Safety recalls have to be done irregardless of age, warranty limitations
and condition of the vehicle. Nuisance recalls, leaks, oil consumption
bad paint it's the old shaftifizool! You will get a notice if applicable!!

Woo Hoo! Lucky Me!
So I've been smelling a weird odor for the past few days and didn't think anything of it. Well when I got back to my shop today from getting lunch, I poped the hood and sure enough I saw this and it was laying directly on top of the driver's side cat.

Call Ford customer service and they said to call back in an hour or so because their computers are down and they want to be able to document this. So in the mean time I did a little riggin of my own so I can get the car home safely and park it.

Might be worth everyone checking theirs and calling in and complaining about it so we can get this taken care of or atleast try to.

I noticed the insulation material sagging by the exhaust, but I have not smelled anything burning.
