Marc, too late. For those Bud guys, don't worry, they operate their own hop fields and warehouses, as do most of the major breweries. Where it is going to hurt, is the craft brewers. What's another quarter for a really good, IPA?

Oh the humanity... It's not just a local or even National Hopinstance.. It's an International Hoppining. I'm sure the Firemen hopped to it but it there was no hop for such a fire. I got so Hopped up when I heard this news I had to head to the frig to quench the bittersweet loss that will ensue from this occurance.
Hoppy Trails and G'nite!

Is that going to run the price of beer up? ;)

Don't worry fellas. The hops I use come from Europe. Saaz, Halertau, Kent Golding. I already have my Cascade hops for the IPA I'll make...

Some answers to the comments.

1) Miller doesn't grow its own Hops
2) "Big" Beer Pricing has little to do with the cost of the ingredients
(Example: The aluminum can costs more than the hops. Alumimum is over two times as much per ton today than last year, anybody notice a price increase?)
3) Craft beer cost will probably increase because they do limited hedging.
4) See Sig for Beer Bias

Gary, it is quite amazing that the "Big" beer guys are able to keep prices level. You are correct that the ingredients cost are minimal. When I brewed for a regional brewer here in MD, our Blonde Ale cost .11 per 16 oz. in material cost. We did not have much overhead, and we had keg only filling. We charged $110.00 per keg. Needless to say, our profits were huge. The big guys have marketing, can costs, bottle costs, personnel, etc. etc. All of these expenses added up, make for some pretty slim margins. But the price/war to keep loyal customers is paramount. Just my .02
