Power steering pump

After 8200 miles my power steering pump failed! Dealer replaced and since getting car back, when steering into turns, the steering feels heavy and just a bit sluggish. Before it was tight and light. My question,, the dealer installed a pump for a grand marquis,, is there a specific pump for the marauder, or is it generic for all. Any thoughts or comments??

Mark - I am not sure if the GM has rack and pinion steering. The MM probably has a different pump. You can check by calling the dealers parts counter. John

The 2003 Grand Marquis does have rack and pinion steering.
Sounds like something isn't right though. Is the new pump working?

My power steering pump failed within the first 12 hours of ownership (4 miles on odometer when driven off dealer's lot)!!! A local Ford service shop replaced it with no problems.

The pump is the same. There may be some air trapped in the system. They usually bleed themselves so try driving it for a few days. If it doesn't improve then I'd suggest having the dealer check it out again.
