She referred to the 60's era GT40's as the GT. The new one is the GT and the old ones are the GT40.

The guy showing her the new GT did not do much better. Could not pronounce "Le Mans". and seemed to know just the highlights on the car.........She asked "how fast" he replies with 0-60 time. Last time I checked that would be an answer for "How quick is it?"

Funny how Ford thinks its ok to sell that way. Go in and ask the same question of a Porsche or a Ferrari sales person, and you will get very specific detailed passionate answers........All a part of the buying experience that sets exotics apart from Fords. That said. ....... The GT is an awesome car that sells itself. Good thing.

"It does the quarter-mile in about 11 seconds" I thought 11.9 was more like "about 12". ;)

Now I know why that Ford GT took 1st place in Saturday's car show. I'll settle for 2nd .... 'cause I ain't gonna wear the dress.

The GT will run circles around most any Porsche or Ferrari.

The GT salesmen is selling a variety of cars all, including the GT, that cost a lot less then the Porsche/Ferrari.

Every 7,500 miles the Ferrari needs a rebuild.

The hot rod mags have run in the 10's.

Not trying to pick a fight here Sail, but I sell for a living and have in the past successfully sold highline cars (1993 sold new Lamborghini, and Lotus, but mostly used Porsches and Ferrari's, and 2001-2004 New Volvo's and assorted highline/other). I can honestly say I never lied to sell a car, because my product knowledge at the time was at a very high level, hence no need to baffle with bs........

No need to make excuses for poor product knowledge, because that is what the video was an example of.

The best auto salesman I ever met lived by this close to verbatum motto.........Highline cars are an emotional purchase to the nth degree. To be successful selling them, you have to be able to share the history of the brand/model in a convincing compelling way. if you are able to do this the buyer will get swept up in the mystique of it all and buy. Its being a part of these compelling stories that the buyer is looking for. Having product knowledge on that level creates customer loyalty to the salesperson and the brand. If your facts are out of wack, you will trip up and loose a customer, because most have aspired to own for a long time before buying and know the story..........They just want to purchase from someone who shares their enthusiasm. Not some schmuck. I agree 100%.

Ford has a good story with the GT 40 and the GT. They should do it justice by holding the dealer and the people trying to sell them to a higher standard. Especially when in front of a camera, and certainly if one of their largest dealers is involved in the story telling... This what the buyer expects when that kind of $$ is plunked down. They are not buying a Focus and don't want to be treated like they are.
