OK, as if I needed another reason to hate FRAM products, I was under my ol' Taurus the other day and noticed that the FRAM fuel filter I installed just 2 years and 15,000 miles ago was completely rusted! Not the kind of surface corrosion or discolouration you might expect, but a crusty, flaky, ugly, lump of RUST. I will post pix ASAP (it's supposed to rain tomorrow). I used to think it was only their oil filters that were sub-standard and overpriced, but I believe this to be significant enough that I can no longer in good conscience recommend FRAM's fuel filters either.

Someone did an oil filter study here a couple of years ago where several oil filters were cut open to see just how much filter material there was. Fram was about dead last as I recall.

I will never use Fram products.

:D

Napa Gold. The best IMHO.

Bill, the FRAM Tough Guard IS the only FRAM oil filter worth anything, but there are better filters for less money. WIX/NAPA Gold/Carquest Blue (all the same filter, just different paint on the can) are excellent, as are Motorcraft.
Mobil 1 and K&N are very good, too, but way overpriced...

I never trusted Fram, ever. Their "Cold Air Intake's" that they make now are ridiculous and the commercial's they have for them. Every person they have on it, the only thing they can say is, "Wow! What great sound!" Never once can I remember where one person said that they can notice a bit more power. I still use the stock Motorcraft filters. What's funny is, my dad's '04 F-150 5.4l 3v uses the same filter as my car? Odd...

I don't care WHO makes the filter or the oil. I never buy products that have spanish writing on them. My little contribution to keeping this country ours!

The Motorcraft filter came in looking quite good in the previously mentioned oil filter study.

I use them and they are available at most places.

The 820S is used all over. My 2002 Class C RV uses an 820S. I buy then 5 at a time so I usually have one on hand when needed.

THe fl-820s is used in virtually all modular engines since 1991. Perhaps *every* modular engine, exception the 05-06 Ford GT (modular based)

I've had good luck with Fram fuel filters but I change them every 6 months or so!! I cut most open to see what they have trapped and they look to be high quality??

I will not use their oil filters though!!:argue:

I am confused.... is this thread about fuel filters or oil filters?Charlie, I simply wanted to let people know that something as simple yet important as the fuel filter, something which in many cases goes un-noticed for years, may be a source of concern. Ford's maintenance spec for normal service of the fuel filter is 30,000 miles and my experience with this particular FRAM filter indicated that it is dangerously close to EOL (End Of Life) after only 15,000 miles of use.

Interestingly, a perusal of the owner's manual states the following: "Replace the fuel filter with an authorised Motorcraft part. The customer warranty may be void for any damage to the fuel system if an authorized Motorcraft fuel filter is not used."

Ordinarily, I would chalk this up to manufacturer hype and a scare-tactic attempt to sell me their own overpriced parts, but after seeing the decrepit condition of this FRAM fuel filter with mine own eyes, I begin to understand why I have always insisted on genuine OEM parts for any car I really cared about.
