I don't have access to CarFax but this GT has an open recall for the ignition switch (95S28). Also, for how early the VIN is, It will most likely have the 85 MPH speedo.

Thanks for the reply. It shows 32 records for the record check. Yeah, 1989 was the first year for the 140 mph speedo for 5.0s, were the 4cyl LX got the little 85 mph like my 88 GT. I am trying to go pick it up this Saturday, so I guess I might have to bite the bullet and get a carfax. I just want to make sure its not stolen......thanks again for running it for the open recall.

Keep us posted. 140 MPH speedos came a little later in October/November builds. 25th anniversary badges came on 89s made after 4/17.

See you learn something new everyday. I thought all 5.0's from 89 came with the 140 mph speedo and I think I knew about the badge. Now you got me scared, I hope its the 140 mph speedo, I hate the little 85 mph one. WImpy Wimpy Wimpy. I do know this mustang is low number its only like the 3,700 vehicle produced for 89 out of like 200,000.
Thanks RR, I will try the police to check it out.

The 160mph speedo from the SSP Mustang might be worth your while. They might just be hard to find.

Yeah,
Thats a good option. I am thinking about just getting one from a junkyard, but they want 200 for it. Crap, I can't believe this mustang probably has the 85 mph speedo since it is so low on the production. I wish I could find out the build date on it......
Brian, how come you know so much about stangs?

Between me having a 1981, 2 1989s (LX 5.0 hatch & GT convertible) and 1995 GTS, and my mom having a '65, a '75, a '79, a 1986, a '93, a '94, and a 2000, I have grown up with the experience. Plus I enjoyed the 5.0 HO style when it came out in 1987.

I'm sure you can get a cluster much cheaper, our local club always has lots of parts floating around for cheap, I wouldn't let the speedo stop me if it was a good condition Fox!
If you get it and it's 85mph let me know I may be able to find you a 140mph one cheaper.

Hey thanks Breadfan......I am definitely going to go get it, just waiting to get directions from him. I definitely appreciate it if you can find me a cluster on the cheap. to you.

Well hopefully I'm not wrong about that :) but I seem to recall someone in the mustang club having one...I'll ask around this weekend at our get together.
It's getting hard to these cars in good shape, congrats!

Thank you very much. If I can return the favor one day, just let me know. Did I fail to mention how great this community is?

Since you work for Ford, what do you know about the CVPI with the hood scoop that is running around up there?

I haven't seen it. I am not on Ford campus, as I work in one of the offsite offices. I do get to see a lot of prototypes running around though. Fun as all get out. I am just excited about the Boss 302 engines. I wonder if I can convince them to build me one in a car???????
