Well, I did a search on this and didn't find anything definitive. Basically it's 25 degrees outside and my heat is being screwy. The heat only blows hot periodically when I'm driving. I get nothing but cold air at idle. Any help here would be appreciated because I'm starting to chafe. btw I have an 03' with 50,000 miles. Thanks all

Check the coolant level first.
Just want to make sure... you are describing a temperature problem and not an airflow problem, right?

Yes, temp control problem. I have the orange coolant which is spot on level wise and looks fresh. The blower works fine and when I used the a/c the temp controls worked perfect.

Sounds like you have air trapped in the coolant system.

Yeah I had the same problem. Check the coolant level, and you need to bleed the coolant. You probally have a air pocket in your coolant system.

Thanks fellas, I'll give bleeding the system a shot and see what happens.

Either air in the cooling system or your HVAC controls are acting up. Maybe a problem with the blend door.

maybe your thermosate is sticking?

I thought that might be the case, but I've been keeping my eye on the temp gauge. Only once did the gauge rise to almost overheating in a week. The rest of the time it's gets to it's warmed up position and stays there. I'm going to bleed it and if that doesn't have any effect then it's on to the thermostat.

You guys are goooood....Thanks for the link sully. I unscrewed that cap in front of the alternator a bit and let the car warm up, it hissed for a few seconds and I closed it. Nothing but scorching hot air out of those vents now. Thanks for your help, my hat is off to all of you.

Park it slightly uphill and remove the crossover plug.....fill with coolant and cap it back off....you should be fine unless it's the @#^&%@* HVAC control head!!!:argue: Mine went wacky and required replacement...under warranty thank Heaven!!
Good Luck!!

You have a problem that may come back.
