Hey guys,I found a '98 Vic today here in Canada selling for $3995 obo certified and emission tested(Ontario Requirement).
Mileage is: 147,000 kilometers (92,000 miles).

I test drove the car and it tests out great actually.A little rough looking but it runs perfect and tranny is smooth and strong. Both Heater and A/C work excellent.
I heard there was a "plastic intake" issue with these, what is that about if anyone knows?

Also, does anyone have any snow tire recomendations for this car?

thanks for your time,

DD:)

Would you like an OASIS report on this CV? PM me the VIN if you like.

As for the answer to your question, I've seen retired CVPIs from up north use Goodyear Ultra Grip.

I believe the plastic intake problem is not a problem with the 98 police package.

OASIS only goes back one year, and only lists warranty work in that time. I don't think it would do him much good on a 98 (other than maybe seeing if there are any outstanding recalls).

I believe the plastic intake problem is not a problem with the 98 police package.

1996 on up to early 2001 were troublesome with the all plastic intake manifold. Some CVPIs had a recall to replace it.

The plastic intake issue had to do with the fact that the coolant runner in the intake was also plastic and had the tendency to crack. I had this issue with my '97 Thunderbird and had it taken care of by the dealer, free of charge.

The updated intakes would be replaced if the serial#
is a fleet or Police registered serial. Most would already be
changed..Private get it up the wazoo!and have to pay to
change it.If the runner right behind the Altnator is aluminium
its already been done!!

The recall has expired. What happens is a crack in the plastic coolant runner behind the alt.You can't see it coming and the veh. is pretty much undrivable when it does happen. You should change it as preventative maintenance if it is plastic. Some have plasic and some have aluminum--no ryme or reson.S#$t happens??

:type: Good in your new adquisition but I will give you a few advices.

1-if your Panther has not reach the 100.000 milles doa tranny oil flush but first ispect it if the oil is red and smell soft you can change it !BUT! if the oil looks brownish in color and smell burned forget it unless you got in plans to do a restoration.

2- post a few pics to see your new adquisition.

enjoy your new Panther.

I bought a 1999 Crown Victoria LX today with 93,000 miles or 150,000km.It's that silvery light green colour what ever that was officially named?

I am very happy and this is my first Panther,I pick it up on thursday and is a one owner car and everything works on it.

So in a nutshell what are the differences between a P74 and a P71 then?Does the driver door key pad entry only unlock the car doors then?

I want to thankyou for your help on here so far guys....especially RoyLPita.

P71 should not have a door keypad... assuming you mean the one out side the door.. Some P71 have the rear door latch and lock rods removed as an option...so they are always locked from the inside.. I paid $800 USD for a 98 CVP71 a year ago and have put 20000 miles on her as my work horse... next year she goes to the Demo Derby as I do with my oldest one each year.. At around 150000 miles the front wheel bearings, the rear axles and bearings, and the Idler arm should be looked at... We run studded Hakkepelita tires on all 4 feet here in VT in the winter. P71 Police Package, P72 Commercial Fleet (taxi), P73 base Civvy, P74 LX Civvy...RAM

Brian, I stand corrected.
I thought it was fixed in1997.

.......so,how do I tell where my heated leather seat switch is in a 1999 model P74,I think it was an option?I have a digital dash as well.

Does anyone have a write up on the 99 Crown Vic LX or something so I can get more educated on this car?

thanks

Sweet deal! I paid 8K for my '92 back in '98. It's coming up on 300,000km, and runs pretty much just like I bought her. It had 160,000km when I bought her, and she only sees winter driving.

Look foreward to many years of good service!

Scratch heated seats. Only GMs & MMs could have them from 1st 1/3 of the 2003 model year. I am adding the electronic dimming rear view mirror in its place.

Sorry for the mix up.
