I got #45. What is cool is how many new cars are now on this list. 15 years ago it stopped with the 1971 cars. There are a ton of cars that should probably be in there but hey it is still a fun list.

Nice to see the Cyclone CJ 428 included.

In 1969, Mercury sponsored the NY Knicks on TV. They brought 50 orange Cyclone fastbacks to the Ford parts depot where I worked (in NJ) and then drove them over to Manhatten in a caravan. Great site.

They also had an early Pantera in the shop, and one of the first 1966 2+2 Mustangs.

That list is OLD. Well over 10 years old. I remember printing it out back in 96, and bringing it to the dealer I worked at to show people.

Also, like most "road tests" from years back, the data is always contraversial, due to poor magazine test drivers, track conditions, crappy tires, etc. So take it all with a grain of salt.

I own #2, but I think we all know it should really be number 1 :D.

I posted the following about 2 years ago. The muscle cars of yore are not as fast as we remember.

I recently competed in a Muscle car race and most were not as fast as my S/C Marauder.

"Watched the Speed Channel last nite Muscle car shoot out. Legendary Motor Cars took the following vehicles as they came from the factory and here's what they did in 1/4 times;
1969 GTO Judge Stage 3 - 14.090
1970 Chevelle LS6 - 13.953
1970 Buick GS Stage 1 -13.960
AMX 390 GoPack - 14.848
1969 429 Boss Mustang - 13.743
1969 Hurst Olds - 13.828."

I agree and have posted the same observation.

I also know that several muscle cars w/ headers and slicks will run .75 to 1.0 faster.

If I recall Mike, the Boss 351 recorder the fastest stock for stock et of all the early Mustang models, even the highly praised 68 1/2 428cj.....:drool: :drool: :drool:

IMHO it is STILL the BADDEST car ever made!

Mine's got 550 HP in it and it weighs less than a Mini Cooper!

BOSS 429!

Someday I'm going to fit one of those between the frame rails of my Marauder to replace the small cube Mod motor yet keep the Valve Cover "WOW" factor intact.

I bet that the BOSS 429 engine is not much larger than the current DOHC Mod Motor in external dimensions...I'll have to check the FRPP Catalog specs.

It's actually smaller in overall dimensions so it should fit!
I'm thinking way down the road since my Marauder only has 10,000 miles on it,but a cast iron block with more cubes,steel crank,h beam rods,forged pistons,cam and head work,then the blower should do it.
Meantime if I want to go blindingly fast I'll fire up the Boss.It's also black!

Yes,and before I make any serious changes to my Marauder Iwould really like to build my first Cobra with an all aluminum Boss 429 under the hood.
I saw the pics from the club member in Ca.
That Boss engine looks looks awesome in his Cobra.
