Took my MM to the dealer for an oil change. An earlier service writer said best time to bring it in was around 3 pm. I did bring it in at 3 and was told "well, it will take one and a half hours"; no thanks, went to a nearby Ford dealer and got the same time estimate. No thanks. I know its before a holiday but whatever happened to dealership quick oil change only areas?

I've worked for several dealers throughout my life and none of them had a "drive in anytime - quick oil change rack". They may today, but that would be news to me.

Do it yourself. Then you know it's done right!

My local L/M Dealer also has an ANYTIME oil change pit. About 30 mins on average....that is...if you want the stealership to perform your service.

My local L/M dealer takes all day to do an oil change.
But the Ford dealer has a quick lube facility seperate from the repair bays. A customer's car is serviced in about 30 minutes, regardless of the time of day. They also do fuel filter changes and tranny fluid changes. Cost is a lot cheaper than the quick oil change shops.

Houston (Tommie Vaughn) and College Station (Varsity Ford) have both done my oil, unscheduled, in about as much time as it took me to walk out and look at a few, new Mustangs

When in route to my L/M Dealership, I call to let them know I am on the way for an oil change
Start to finish, about 45 minutes, max.
Funny, the car jockeys always sprint to my MM when paged. :D
The oil change guy always takes care of me as I do him. ($5.00 tip)
Mike.

I walk outside. I put the car on ramps. I drain the old Royal Purple and remove the old Motorcraft FL820S filter. Then I install a new Motorcraft filter and pour in 6 new quarts of Royal Purple. Done.
Total time (if I'm being slow) is about 20 minutes. Total cost = about $27.
Oh, wait, this was about the dealership oil changes!
I dunno about that. I've never in my life taken my car to the dealership for an oil change. They'd probably take too long and cost too much money. Surely, they would charge at least $27, right? And I doubt they'd use Royal Purple. Plus, I'd have to drive there, which wastes gas and costs even more money.
And the worst part is, I'd have to live with that faint odor of "sweaty grease monkey" lingering in my car for at least a few hours afterward. Not cool.

Cost for me is about $27.00 at the Dealership.
I figure it this way. I am under warranty + premium care after the OEM warranty expires. Motorcraft oil is good oil, maybe not as good as RP, but good.
If anything happens to the engine related to oil, Ford will have a helluva time trying to 'weasel' out of it by blaming it on me.
All receipts as proof and on 3,000 mile schedule.
Besides, I like driving the car whenever I can. ;)

^^^ There's nothing wrong with that. :) ^^^
Maybe I'm just weird because I like that warm fuzzy feeling I get when I pour that Purple gold in my crank case. Or maybe I just don't like the thought of having a sweaty grease monkey in my car.
Either way, I'm a do-it-yourselfer. :)

Cost me about 27 also....but I watch while they work on my car...so no short cuts......I make sure the 24pt inspection is done as well as tire pressure check, tires inspected breaks inspected, filter changed and I can look under the car for any dammage or leaks...

I have my oil changes done on my day off from work, I go to a SERVICE only facility that is owned by a local dealership, it has only 10 bays and I know the mechanics on a first name basis. The average wait is 45 minutes and I am at all times about 8' from the front bumper of my car watching everything. I am allowed to inspect the underside of my car which I always do.
They have been doing all maintenance and warranty work to my car since purchased date in 7/02 and they love my car and what I have done to it. The truth is I don't care too much how long it takes as long as it is done right.:)
By the way I pay $25 per oil change, every 3rd change is free.
