Yet again, Ford outdoes itself in ineptitude. I've just read that for 08 they plan to discontinue Focus hatches here in North America. I remember when they did this to Escorts. Versatility and usefulness gone, sales plumeted. I guess they didn't leearn anything. Not sure about you folks south of the 49th, but up here, hatches and wagons out number the sedans many-fold. Not sure how Ford plans to sell these sedans to either the practical-minded, or to the younger, Japanese buying crowd. Probably just their way of building up statistics to justify discontinuation of yet another decent car. I still miss my Tempos, by the way. Affordable, efficient, well made, great handling and lots of get-up-and-go. Way to go, Ford.

Haven't read that. Is it only in Canada?

The Focus will be all new from the bottom up in a few years. I hear rumor that the new one will be made in Mexico and the current plant in Wanye, Mich. will be closed and idled forever. This is going to be part of their Way Forward Plan. They plan on axing 12 plants :fire: and the talk is this is one of them. :bs: More pain and suffering coming to my fellow union brothers and sisters and their poor families.

It amazes me that they would build the Mark LT after the Blackwood snafu.

apparently they sell Mark LTs

Personally I don't understand Lincoln, or Cadillac for that matter, trucks.

I've just read that for 08 they plan to discontinue Focus hatches here in North America.

There must be some reason for this.
If it is they can't explain it to us.

GM did the same thing with the Cavalier in 1995.
I was going to buy a 95 Cavalier Wagon, fully loaded,
with a V6, Leather, roof, and all the toys.
I put in the order, and a week later my salesman calls me
and says the wagons were discontinued for the 95 MY.
So I asked him if there were any other small wagons I could buy.
He told me, "Go buy a Ford Escort Wagon. It is the only SMALL US wagon still made.".

I took his advice and purchased a 1995 Ford Escort wagon that year.
Now it is 10 years, and EIGHT Fords later, we have the
2004 Marauder and the 2006 Freestyle.

If FORD doesn't see this as a MISTAKE, then they deserve what they got coming to them.
That's my 2 cents on this subject.....

Nope, not just Canada. All of the NA Focus hatches will be deleted. Europeans, however, will continue to get the "fun and useful" models.

Blackwood was cool looking. Mark LT can tow & haul more then Blackwood, so yes Ford did learn from past mistake in this case:up:

How about the fact that Ford wants to be seen as the "Green" company, yet they only put manuals in the cheapest, smallest engined version of the vehicles they make? Add more power to the rear wheels, reduce fuel consumption with a manual, but they won't do it. Unless you're in Europe, that is. Its one of those rare cases where proximity hurts Canadians - We get all the American models instead of the funky, cool Euro models. No offence to anyone here intended. I doubt our group contains the biggest fans of wallowing, inefficient, auto clad autos in North America.

Take the Focus outta Hermosillo and bring it to Wayne Assembly only to shut down Wayne Assembly(I've heard this rumor too as I'm next door at Mich Truck.) and take the Focus back to Mexico. :shake:
