Stored in the 'Real' gauge's boxes for safe keeping like all the OEM parts that I removed.
I doubt it will ever happen to Marauders...BUT....Mustang guys are coughing up HUGE dollars for those pesky BOSS 429 smog thermactor valves that got junked as a first mod...

heh heh heh...

I can see it now:

2032 Barrett Jackson auction

"Bob that pristine 2003 Mercury Marauder would have gone for well OVER $300,000.... IF it still had the original 'fake' gauges!!!"

I keep all my old parts... except for the ones Jim Lambert has, he'll send his takeoffs back to me when he's ready. Then, I'll keep them.

I have kept the takeoffs so far, but finding them in my utility room might be another matter. :)

The Volts gauge is a real gauge.:)

[new owner] so are the factory oil pressure and voltage gauges completely decorative, or just inaccurate enough to be useless? someone opined that the voltage gauge is actually useful? still adjusting to the car, I've only had it for a week... [/new owner]

The stock volt meter is fine. Actually, for me it was more accurate than the replacement volt meter which reads about 0.5 volts high. The replacement oil pressure gauge is necessary if you care to actually know your oil pressure. The stock one is simply an on-off switch, always 0 or about 65.

^^^what jonroe said^^^

96Diamond, the OEM oil pressure gauge is a glorified idiot light. AutoMeter makes a replacement kit (#4327) that matches the OEM gauge during the day, but at night the face is perimeter lit, as opposed to the OEM backlighting. The sender (included in the kit) needs to be swapped also. There's a how-to in the reviews section...thanks to Wes (wchain).

I just ordered my Phantom II gauges for my X-Mas present from Wifey....

Mechanical oil and matching volts.....

My dealer replaced them when I got my Marauder it has with real gauges and they reused the old faces :)

Then why does it read 12.5 when the volts are actually 14 while running ?
I want a Volt Gauge that is ACCURATE.

well if anyone still has thier and doesnt want them, can i have/buy them, i want to tear into them and make them non transparent, like my afternarket trans temp gauge, cause the oem ones look greenish at night with the lights on.

i figured id try on a second set incase i break them trying

Why does the "fake" oil p. guage go up slowly on start-up in my '04 (built in 9-03), like my real Auto-Meter oil p. guage in my Mustang, and even appear to vary slightly?
Is it possible that Ford did put some real guages in some of the cars, even though this is not one of the latest ones? Just wondering, thanks. :sleepy:

Is it possible that Ford did put some real guages in some of the cars, I doubt it highly. The OEM oil pressure gauge is "ballasted" to respond slowly so as not to vary with input voltage and make it appear that the oil pressure is fluctuating. Ford came up with this brilliant idea to stop the morons who complained that their oil pressure was high when the motor was cold and low when it was warm... (duh). Ford figured that if the oil pressure was "perfect" at all times, people won't complain.

JEEZ....that sounds like a 'LEXUS' maneuver!!

Maybe they should ballast the 'CHECK ENGINE' light so that it comes on slowly...
that way the idiots won't slam on their brakes to stop when the light blinks on.
