Someone posted a real cool video by these guys last Christmas .

Any idea where it went? I searched and can't find it, it was a house with a light show done to the music. I believe the cut was " Wizards in Winter" ?

Google search "trans siberian orchestra", then click on the Video header. Just found it for a co-worker who plans on seeing them later this month in concert.

Here's one I hadn't seen before. Audio not as good. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=67456907380920 19916&q=%22trans+siberian+orchestra% 22

Trivia: What was the band's name before Trans-Siberian Orchestra? :D

Wasn't it Savatage or something like that? They weren't that sucessful until TSO took off. They are a great band though, I have one of their CD's and it's quite fulfilling.

Yep, Savatage is right. They still play as that group, but they make bajillions more money as TSO.

Savatage were the original guys.

There are also multiple TSO bands playing at this point in the game.
Far too many venues to fill for one group.

They do a mean classical Beethoven show as well.

I saw LOST XMAS in a very small theatre setting with no more 600 fans years ago. I met the original band members, and shared drinks with them.

I have several fully signed cd's and ticket stubs from that evening.

It was one of the most moving shows I have ever witnessed.:bows:

Can you guys recommend any of their non-xmas music?

They have a CD titled "Beethoven's Last Night"

Jody Ashworth of TSO also sings with James Labrie from Dream Theater on this album: http://www.progrockrecords.com/shop/view.php?id=98

Charlie,
Go find Hall of the Mountain King. You won't be disappointed. Just don't put it in the car, it'll make you drive stupid! It would be perfect in an Ipod while doing demolition around the house . . .

Wow, this brings back memories!
Savatage was a bar band in the Tampa Bay area years ago.
I never realized they morphed into TSO.
The MM collective strikes again!

IMHO, their "Old City Bar" is one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard. Listening to the lyrics, and visualizing the story in your mind is a truly great musical experience.

Right up there with Long Tall Sally. :) :)

I have had the Trans-Siberian Orchestra CD in the car since this was posted last year. Funny thing is that I can't seem to ever play "Wizards in Winter" without visualizing the Christmas light show. :D

OK now that you're getting into TSO and Savatage, here's a few more...

Ayreon - The Human Equation: http://www.amazon.com/Human-Equation-Regular-Ayreon/dp/B0001YNK70/sr=8-1/qid=1165510804/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-8370399-0380762?ie=UTF8&s=music

Dream Theater - Just about anything! I recommend either Images and Words (1993) or Metropolis Pt II: Scense From a Memory ('99) as a starter. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/104-8370399-0380762?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=dream+theater&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go

I've seen them before. If you can get tix, get'em. Great show!! I can vouch for that, I just saw them on Saturday afternoon in Cleveland. Great show! They mentioned that video, their light/laser show is great but not as good as that video. Will have to look for Savatage.

I couldn't agree more. If you haven't heard their newest album Octavarius, you're missing out. That's another one that will make you get speeding tickets. Absolutely killer musicians. I use it for getting home on Friday afternoons in the tanker! That's one CD that'll never make it into the Marauder.

Yup! You got it!

The have a few DVD's out too, latest one is "Score" - also on the "Live at Budokan" DVD Portnoy does a really cool drum solo - I think it's on the bonus track. At anyrate he pulls this guy out of the audience and basically teaches him to play drums during the solo. :) Real fun to watch!

Their last three live DVD's also have a 3-cd album set released at the same time. When I saw them live they played nearly 4 hours.
