Is this possible?

I would think your first defense is that the cameras are wrong cause no one can get one of those to go 147

Yes they can, the new ones are capable of that speed. Someone said on CVN that Road and Track or Car and Driver got one of them up to 137.

I think terminal velocity is around 120 or 130. :)

"Questions had been raised over whether the Sonata could reach 147 mph. But a corporate Hyundai technician said a road test showed that the Sonata could reach that speed." IF it was dropped out of an airplane.....

Must've been talking about a Hyundai tied to to a s/c Marauder.. Then I am pretty sure it'll do 147.

Im calling Bravo Sierra.
According to my July 2005 issue of Motor Trend where they tested the new Hyndai Sonata, its available with a 2.4L DOHC 4cyl with 162HP or you can opt up to the 3.3 DOHC V-6 with 235HP.
Any rental car company buys the most plain jane car to fill their lots, I dont see a V-6 Hyndai being offered as a rental.
Even if it was, According to the article the V-6 puts all its power down low and loses it in the upper range, No way its going to pull 147 unless its headed down a steep incline or being pushed.
Plus isnt it kinda odd that you get a speed of 127 and 147? What are the chances that you get a exact difference of 20MPH?

I rented a V-6 Sonata in Boston at the airport back Labor Day Weekend.

Not a bad car for the $$$ Seats sucked but the engine had me clippin pretty nicely down the MA Pike to Sturbridge.

Ran it to 115mph on a stretch before I had to back off. it had more in the tank.

These guys are runnin right up Honda and Toyota's butt... the big boys better be careful.

Cool thing about too? i could still fit it in my Maruaders trunk:lol:

The car goes that fast because they relocated the IAT sensor.

I wouldnt be too suprised. It sure seems to me newer cars are damn fast as a general rule (with the exception of my Montego). I drove one of those Sonatas not long ago at it had plenty of juice. Is that the same 6 as in the Tiburon? If so, those things must be nice to drive (if you dont mind torque steer).
