What is the correct parking location for the blade? At the point where the blade attaches to the arm post the distance from blade edge to the black plastic trim piece is 3.25". Too much? Too little? Juuusst right?

Don't know speck. but I had mine adjusted lower to match the driver side..

it is in the workshop Manual. I'll dig mine out and post, unless someone beats me to it

Mine was sticking up higher than I thought it should. When I took it back to get the windows tinted, they adjusted it for me. Mine is about 2 3/4 from the trim piece. It lines up with the drivers side. I also replaced those garbage blades that came on the car the second day I had it.

Yours is high, a lot of them are like that. The dealer fixed mine, it now sits low just like the drivers side.

Don't let 'em tell you it's fine either! Cause they will... Jefferson-mo should have the repair code for that operation.

Can anyone post a pic of what the "right" set up looks like?

I will, give me about 10 mins. I need to take a pic of my Armor-alled engine bay anyway! :D

You can have 15 minutes as long as you agree to Armor All my engine bay too.

Thanks. Tonight when I get home I will have a point of reference. I think that mine look like this.

Guess I could have put up some measurements. The driver side wiper sits up at about 1 3/4". The passenger side sits up at about 1 7/16". I measured sort of how Donald did, except I went from the end of the cowl up to the bottom of the wiper arm, not the wiper itself.

Is this something we can adjust ourselves? I would rather not have the dealership touch it.

I don't know what they did to adjust it. All I know is that they told me there's nothing wrong with it when I first brought it in. I had to personally show the SM the difference between the two. I baisically handed him everything he needed, and he still said there was nothing wrong. So after getting a little curt with him, I told him to give what I gave him to an actual mechanic back there, and next thing I know, my car comes back looking right. Go figure... me knowing more than the SM...

OK. From the top tip of the right blade to the hood edge, should be 60 mm. For the driver's blade 58 mm.

I dunno where you came from, but here in the good ol' USoA, we use inches... :D

Plus I'm not getting a tape measure anywhere near my hood...

Thank you LML for posting a picture of your car's wipers, I also have wipers that sit too high and look terrible, I posted about this problem a long time ago and asked for a picture from those guys that said their wipers were adjusted at the dealer and looked fine so I could take to my dealer, who told me there is no fix. I know you posted based on another members request but I am very grateful just the same. Glad you are a part of this forum !!! :bows: :bows:

I don't think there is any adjustment. The dealer probably bent the wiper arm. IMHO.

I took a close look at my wiper after the dealer adjusted it, and it definitely was not bent. I can post a photo if you like.

After I got mine adjusted, then I went with bosch blades and now I noticed they set a little higher than the stock blades.
I am amazed that we find so many quirks with our Marauders.
but then again thats part of the fun...................

Nice!!!!

This is too funny. The day after I brought my MM home, I took it back and made them adjust the same wiper. They told me the same thing...nothings wrong.

Small world, with small problems, I just kept that one to myself.
It's amazing how we all think a like when it comes to the little things.

Tell your dealer to fix it 'cause about 905 other people did!

Rock on

Well, better talk to Ford then. That's how they printed it in the Workshop manual. :D :P

there is adjustment, but unless the wiper arm is very high, the adjustment isn't fine enough, so sometimes they have to bend the wiper arm slightly

You're right, RC (as usual)...

I tried to have my tech adjust mine, we removed the arm but the mechanism has "teeth" on it that doesn't allow you to adjust the arm down. The only way is to bend the arm.

I just wish 2 things for the wiper arms:

1. that they hinged up like other cars to keep from chipping the underside of the hood while cleaning the windsheild

and

2. that they laid flat at the bottom of the windsheild tucked below/behind the hood where no wind could get to them at speed.

I don't think either of these is asking too much.

So, from what I understand, the only way to adjust the arm is to bend it?.? Ok, i guess, a little heat and black paint and I'm off. Is there another way to fix this ugly little quirk? I know the 2001 crown vic work car had wipers that retract below the window line and are both different than my marauder. When i turn the vic's wipers on, they pop up from under the hood, then begin wiping. After i am done and turn them off, the wipers stop at the bottom of the window, and then "park" below the hoodline. Make sence?

^^^^THAT'S exactly what I'm talking about Dave...

Just add the hinge and we're on to somethin.

unfortunately the new wiper motors don't have that retracted park mode

With all the knowledge around here. I have to ask...

Is it possible to take the wiper assembely from a 2000-2001 vic with the rectracrable wipers and put that on our cars? I dont see much difference. Its the same frame ect... Any ideas.

I think the wiper system is different Dave. The motor and motor location I think were changed to accommodate the DOHC easier

I can't see any bends:

jgc61sr2002
06-09-2003, 07:42 PM
Mark - You won't see the bend as it is only a minor one. The average dealer will not tell you he bent the wiper arm on your new car. You would probably go bonkers and rightfully so. IMHO.

06-09-2003, 09:35 PM
Mark,
I think mine came out better than yours did... Although, like you said earlier, it could also be your blades. Mine got replaced by the dealer with the same ones as stock, but they sure don't act like those old ones. MUCH better! Possibly a bad batch got through?

Dave Compson

I appreciate the photos, but i still dont understand how the dealer fixed the problem. Was it bent or not? If so, i wonder how. Thanks for the imput on the old system working or not working on our cars. I would rather have the dohc than the wipers. Thanks again....

Mark McQuaide

It would have to have been bent quite a bit - the wiper was well up on the glass before the dealer fixed it. I don't see any bend.
