I am tired of seeing every other car under the sun being turned into a model.
I want a marauder not a cheezy crown vic knock off the real deal.

since i don't own a factory in asia that produces car replicas the only idea i can think of is for MM.net members to bombard a producer with emails

Maisto makes a really nice product and they have a contact web site

http://www.maisto.com/contact.asp

Lets put the power of the MM.net members to the test, the more people who participate.....who knows?

I don't want to break anyone's heart but the probability is low because of the linited sales potential. The cost of decent model production is huge.

Here's my note to Maisto .....

"Have your sales department and marketing folks ever considered making a Mercury Marauder model? Marauders are limited edition performance cars that were only offered during '03 and '04. Some 11,052 of the cars were made and sold. Although most were black, others were produced in Dark Blue Pearl, Silver Birch, and Dark Toreador Red. The basic body style is that of a Crown Victoria or a Grand Marquis but with performance features engine, suspension, exhaust, interior and wheels. The Marauder has a very strong and loyal following among owners and muscle car enthusiasts. Offering such a quality model could result in a boost of sales and truly represent the beginning of the new muscle car era that was initiated with the introduction of the Marauder. Please consider this in any expansion of your model offerings. Count me in for 2 models if you decide to jump on this viable business opportunity. I would anticipate sales of at least 5,000. Thanks."

Im the proud owner of a 2003 Mercury Marauder. Would it be possible to produce a 1:18 scale model version of this limited run modern day muscle car? I assure you there is a somewhat of a cult following of this vehicle and that it will easily become a hot seller once put into production.
Black was the most common color for its 2 year run of 2003-2004.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hope they get the message and make this a reality.

This is true. Remember we tried this here a while back. We even had a model pro here.

But, the model car companies do make some odd models that would seem low interest types.
In our case if they already make model of a CV, they wouldn't necessarily have to start everything from scratch.

ERTL toys has a nice big manufacturing HQ here in IA. If I have to I'll drive out and ask in person.

EDIT: My mother also bought a house from the widow of Bud Lundahl, aka Buddy L of the toy company. I'll see if I can dig anything up there also. For anyone in the Quad Cities, I believe it's the same Lundahl of Lundahl Motors/dealership if someone wants to poke around and see if they can get a response, or I will do it the next time I'm in Moline.

Thanks

Does anyone know if Maisto actually does a CVPI? If not, we might have better luck with one of the companies that already has one. I think Auto Art has run them in several highway patrol/PD color schemes...if they already have the proper tooling for the body that would seem like a HUGE cost-saver. Just a thought...sent the email to that Maisto link too though. :)

Someone (martyo??) mentioned earlier that it may be a licensing issue. If Mercury has not issued a license for any of these companies to make the model, then it ain't gonna happen. :(

Maybe our real beef is with Mercury. This could be another one of those "Doors that Needs Opening". Hey Steve B. :help:

Licensing is definitely one of the issxues.

I do a good bit of work in brand licensing and it is a tricky field for companies that aren't geared up for it.

Most replica manufacturers use those big plastic bands to keep the car in place during shipping and handling. The metal replicas are pretty heavy.

Hmm, Ive only found mercury models that are old school 40s and 50s cars. Mercury for some reason is probably not allowing companies to license their brand.

This reminds me, for any gamers in here, we should email polyphony digital and ask them to put a MM in the next Gran Turismo (5) that will come out late this year on the PS3. They have enough of their crappy 120HP japanese cars, they are able to put a chrysler 300c, and even Taurus SHOs in GT4, and they can't put an 03-04 Marauder?? Same for other games like NFS carbon which has a muscle car class, including the 300c and the charger but no Marauder:bs: .

96DiamondVIII
01-04-2007, 01:52 PM
Hmm....asking for one in GT5 sounds like a capital idea! With as many random cars as are in there already, how hard can it be to model one more?

As to the licensing, it could be an issue with Mercury. However, I've seen '64 Marauders in 1/18 on ebay recently, and some time ago '70 Cougars. So it's not just up to the 50's, but I don't recall ever seeing anything newer. Not that Mercury made a whole lot of exciting vehicles from the late 70's to the late 90's....
