View Full Version : Trans shift tuners?

Hi guys, what tuners are available to modify the shift characteristics of the Marauder? I'm not interested in making it shift harsh or anything like that. I do notice that if you are very light on the throttle, it frequently does a short-shift that is a little harsh. It feels like it's the converter locking up way too soon, not actually a shift. If I wanted to only increase the TCC lockup speeds, and nothing else, is there a tuner for this? Firmer WOT shifts would be okay, but I don't want shifting during normal driving to get harsh.
THanks
Steve

A "tuner" will fix that.

I realize that, curious what are out there. THe XCalibrator2 says it disables TCC lockup until 63 mph. This seems really excessive to me. I have messed with TCC characteristics on other vehicles before and understand that lockup has its place in more than just highway cruise. I really don't want to eliminate TCC lockup altogether, which is basically what the XCalibrator2 does except for high speed highway cruise. The trans is going to run hotter when the TCC is not locked.

Steve with the Xcal 2 you will get firmer shifts as well as adjusted lock up schedule it will also remove the top speed limiter, and give over a 20 RWHP gain in power, it will also spread the shifts out it comes with a free usb cable and program upgrades are Free

The xcalibrator2 with tune from Dennis Reinhart or Lidio Iacobelli will make your tranny issues go away. Factory trans shifting on Marauders is a major malfunction.

The XCal2 is an instrument. A tool. It must be programmed. Different authorized SCT dealers will load their own program into the XCal2 for sale to you. Each Vendor will have their own 'Base' or basic tune for a stock (or near stock) car.
You must choose the vendor that best suits your needs for a tune.
I ultimately decided to go with Mr. Reinhart for the following reasons:
1) He answered his phone.
2) His tune is reputable and many are happy with it.
3) He is geographically closest to me and would be most available should I desire future upgrades (which I have done).
4) SCT has the most software and end user adjustability.
The other major tuner and vendor on this site is Lidio (Alt Auto) and it seems you've read his sight (the tell-tale phrase being TC lockup @ 63).
You'll be happy with either. Both are considered MM expert tuners. Both will wake up the MM, 'correct' the tranny, and both are SCT, so you could adjust (fine tune to your liking) the base tune shifting yourself with SCT provided free software.
I stated my choice and my reasons. You must do the same.
All the best!

I just wanted to add..... if you want a change to your tune from alt. auto. you will have to send the unit back to them for reprogramming. They DO NOT send out ".xtr" files to their customers.....fear of copying.
To use the SCT free software, you need to have an ".xtr " file from your tuner...you can then modify some parameters to your liking...

Both good points...
I guess I lucked into a vendor would would send me my XTR. I only asked for it after a custom dyno tune, tho.
The racer package IIRC was like 300 bucks. Not recommended for the novice. You get total control of ALL parameters and could REALLY do some damage.

After reading and offereing input on your posts...
I think you need to call Dennis Reinhart. He has the complete Cobra exhaust kit for direct bolt on and the SCT tuner with a terrific tune that will already be modified for the new exhaust.
There is definately value in the complete package from one source and the support that goes with it.

Hi Steve,
As others have already posted. The parameters you are looking to modify are pretty much negotiable. So the @63 MPH is the tuner's preference. I have a Lidio tune and I told him I wanted it @55 MPH as here in Arizona I have many roads that I can travel over 55 MPH and light throttle applications. Lidio tuned it to what I asked for. The cost of an Xcal isn't cheap, but you get so much more than just trans adjustment. You'll pick up horsepower as well. Definately one of the best bangs for the buck. Additionally, if you decide to make further modifications, you are just a tune/tuner away from the necessary adjustments to your tune.
