There have been many discusions on brake combinations of stock size rotors aftermarket and larger diameter rotors.. Brake pads ceramic and semi-metalic. Two four & six piston combinations for our marauder. But I have never seen any 60 mph to 0 mph numbers with these combinations. Obviously larger is better but how much better ? Lets see some posted numbers on these combinations from stock set ups to the big brake combos. We certainly spend enough money in this department.

Sounds like a plan. I would be willing to offer my car as one of the test mules. I have several brake pad types and tires that we throw in the mix.

Perhaps this can be a weekend project for spring time in MN. Only 6 months away.

I'll be happy to clamp down on my Baer Decela Rotors and Ceramic pads!!!!

Now, to find a straight stretch of unused road....

TIRES also have a lot to do with the numbers.
Different rubber compounds will have different friction coefficients.
You also have to take into consideration road surface, temperature and weather.

So have a ball, collecting all of this data !!!

This is totally true. Most braking performance for us is judged SOTP. Braking also has a lot to do with driver confidence, knowledge of the limits of the braking system and control of the pedal.

Still, we are all smart guys and can interpret the data if relevant info is given.

May I suggest:
Front brake setup (rotor/pads/calipers)
Rear brake setup (same info)
Y or N for SS brake lines
Assume dry, clean road.
Road Condition: new (smooth), medium, or old (coarse)
Tires Front Brand/size
Tire Rear Brand/size
60-0 distance measured.

Put it in a chart so it can be sorted any way you want and bada-bing!

Not about who's better or worse, just info to pick thru!!!

I guess it depends on why you're using your brakes.

For the occasional street-driven panic stop, 60-0 matters.

Truthfully, most stock brakes are fine in this respect.

For track driving, fade resistance is probably more important and that's the real benefit of bigger rotors. While they offer the calipers more leverage, their ability to absorb more heat and disappate (sp) it faster is what cuts lap times lap after lap.

So, for street driving, your 60-0 test is an excellent measurement. For track driving you have to keep poundin' on them from even higher speeds to see if your money is well spent.

for me, my stock brakes stopping power faded even on the street. They would get s bad I would have to stomp on them to get any real response. After a rear ender I decided on some slotted rotors and some hawk pads. Have saved the car 4 or 5 times and got me out of getting thrown under the jail once

I did not think my brakes were lousy, till I started hanging around with you guys!:D

Get this test started. I would love to see 100-0.

In a legal enviornment. Try 80-0. This would more sport minded with these heavy cars.

Will we use 80mph or 60mph to o for our test ?

100, 80, 60 bring it on!

Holy old thread alert Batman.....

Who has a G-tech type meter we can pass around to provide a consistent measurement method? If you guys get me really excited I can figure out a DOE for this mess.

For each possible combination (tire, brake, pad);

How about 3 repeats, 5 minutes apart to get an average for single stop performance

How about 6 repeats at each speed within xx seconds to evaluate fade

Unfortunately I think the sheer number of variables will make this mind numbing. If only I could talk some of my MN brothers into coming to the road course we could get a big chunk of this data in one day.

jeremy I believe in big brakes:banana2:

Did you want to hold this in Fargo, MI.?

Brainerd, MN would work better for me.

How about we meet half way in Western Michigan?
