$143 each at TireRack.
You can aslo Special Order them from COSTCO.
Their prices usually are the same or less than TireRack
and they mount with Nitrogen and balance for FREE.

Race teams use nitrogen since it doesn't expand with heat. That keeps your air pressures constant as the tires heat or cool.

They are $159.00 each there. Tire rack was a little cheaper, then they have to be shipped. Jeez just about everything for these MM's are expensive, oh well

Nice concise answer; however, everything tries to expand with heat.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Air is over 75% nitrogen with approximately 20% oxygen (varying depending if you live in a big city or in a forest). The air has other gasses and contaminates. One of the most important ingredient in air is the water vapor content.

A race team would pump up their tires in the dry southwest and have different heating effects then in the wetter southeast. Water changes phases i.e. ice to liquid to steam. So the water vapor changes the heating and cooling effects as it changes phases. Under higher pressure the water vapor will puddle out of the air. An example is in an air compressor tank. The compressor tank will require occasional draining through the petcock.

Also with (dry) nitrogen you do not have water droplets forming inside the expensive magnesium racing wheel causing corrosion and making small balance changes. Similar benefits on the factory aluminum MM wheels.

Jim

PS I can go on with psychometric charts and steam tables but enough is enough, as my wife tells me! Nitrogen is better in automotive tires.

I didnt even realize this until last night. My 03 has a brand new tire on the spare. I think Im going to put one of the existing worn ones on the spare wheel and just buy a matching new one. So I only need 1 !!! and I am a happy man. Unexpected, yet HUGE life expenses have been thrown my way and right now every dollar needs to be spent wisely.

I would by two new tires. Even though it's new . Tires begin to deteriorate with age. A matched set is the way to go. IMO.

Don,
The full size spare is the size of the front tires and is not correct for the rear (unless you happen to be running the same size all the way around.)

I have 245/55's on all 4's. I want to buy another 235/50 and put it and the fullsized spare tire ( remounted on the chromie ) up front. The existing 245's in front now are near new and will go on the back.

$159 includes Mount and Balance and disposal.
They even TORQUE your nuts for you with a TORQUE WRENCH.
AND it comes with FREE Lifetime Rotation and Balance.
Do you get that for anywhere else with the purchase of JUST tires ???
