Hi guys, I still have a few months left on my factory warranty. I was told I can buy an extension to my factory warranty before it expires, else I would have to buy an aftermarket warranty if I let the factory one lapse, which would cover less. Has anyone extended their factory warranty? How much more covereage did you buy, and what did it cost? I am capable of most auto repair tasks but want to have a warranty in case something major goes.

Do a search of this site, others have done it. I'd go with the Ford warranty.

I got the Ford Premium ext warranty. 75k or 60 months.
Of course I doubt they would cover the driveline now, but I have all the other stuff covered yet. You can usually wheel and deal with the finance guy on the cost. They get a good spiff for selling them I understand.

FMC factory warranty is the only way to go. I originally purchased it but then decided
to mod the car. I got most of my money back when I cancelled it. A bit of a
hassle but they did come through.

One problem some other aftermarket warranties have is the shop will make
you pay up front and you have collect from the warranty company. Another
thing I have run into is they also are very quick to use salvage yard parts or
aftermarket rather than OEM parts.

Ford warranty is the way to go. Never a delay or hassle waiting for repairs at the dealership. There is always some delay waiting for response when I have had third party extended warranties in past years.

I am told you can request an extention to an ESP.
I doubt Ford would grant me an extention, my claims were several dollars more than the cost of the ESP.

I bought the extracare ESP. I cancelled it 2 months later. If your repair $$ amount is more than a certain figure, an ESP inspector has to come out to approve the repair. The approval of the repair is based on whether the inspector can see visual damage to the parts in question. Basically if it has not failed or if it is not showing obvious signs of impending failure you foot the bill for the dealer to have taken it apart, and reassembled. You won't know until they have torn it down if you will be approved or not. I ended up paying $300 for the dealer to reassemble the rear end they took apart, to show the ESP inspector, who denied replacing my noisy stock gears, because they "looked" fine.

ESP is no better than any aftermarket warranty. Ford makes you think it is extending your all-inclusive factory coverage, but that could not be further from the truth. The ESP warranty is handled by Budco, inc, sold through Ford. It is not a FORD warranty. A lot of people probably do not bother to check into this, but I wanted to know where my money was going. I read all of the warranty contract that people skip over and sign. Plus I got the warranty claim denial screw job soon enough after starting the warranty that I knew I wanted no part of it.

I would much rather shell out of pocket than ever deal w/ ESP again. It's worth the peace of mind.

Don't waste the money! Earmark it for a future repair, If its needed, OK, if not, you are further ahead. Plus don't have to worry about ESP approval, or lack of! Or will Warranty be voided because of a mod?

At my dealership we have a self-authorization limit of $1,500.00 for ESP repairs. After that we have to call it in and get an authorization number, sometimes they approve it off the bat, sometimes they want to send an independant inspector, just depends on the failure. We have limits like that on factory warranty repairs too and also we have to get the customer's authorization on any major repair for teardown.

I put a 72 month 100,000 mile ESP Premiumcare contract with a $0 deductible on the wife's Marauder, and that was right after doing over $2k worth of warranty repairs to it after purchase... being a service advisor does have its advantages!

In my opinion its a good buy, stick with Ford ESP, and definitely shop around dealers for the best pricing.

You can purchase it online without getting the car checked with a valid vin and a credit card. esp.ford.com or something to that effect. It works if you have bumper to bumper coverage in effect, the site is alright, it has graphs of coverage and you can compare prices of different levels. Go the MAX premium care 7 years 100k.

As soon as I picked up blue I purchased a Ford PremiumCARE extended plan. I wouldn't have done anything else!

This is the case of the EVIL Dealer selling you a THIRD PARTY Warranty
because FORD yanked out their authorization to sell
a FORD Premium Care Warranty to you.

EVERY FORD WARRANTY carries the FORD logos on their paperwork.
If you are in doubt as to whether you have a FORD Warranty
you can check the vehicle's OASIS report.
ALL FORD WARRANTIES are posted to the Vehicle's OASIS Report.

The Determination of the warranty coverage is made by the SERVICE MANAGER.
Only in EXTREME cases will the Field Rep ever come to look at your car.
Most of the times they are there to look at PAINT claims.
And even if the FIELD REP has to look at your car, FORD will NEVER
ask you for money to disassemble your car to determine the coverage.

Be EXTREMELY CAREFUL of what you buy over the internet.
What looks like a Ford Warranty site could be a scammer's site.....

Any one of us can capture Ford's logos from a website and post them
onto our own website and sell whatever we want and call it a FORD website.

But of course my friend, the one I had in mind is a true ford website, they even show ford certified used cars. Enter a vin, it tells you the begin date of coverage and the dealership sold.

MeninBlk, you are entirely incorrect. Please don't speak for me when you don't know what I did. I bought the warranty through the Ford ESP website, no dealer involved. They are banking on the fact that people assume it is the same as the Ford base 3/36 warranty. It is not even close. I was told the deal was, any time the car was brought in for a repair, if it was determined that tear down needed to be done in order to determine if the warranty would cover the repair, I was responsible for the cost of tear down if the warranty claim was denied. The dealer laughed when I asked them if the coverage of ESP was anywhere near what 3/36 was. They agreed not to expect the coverage I was afforded under the base 3/36. ESP's warranty is dealt with totally separately from the 3/36 all included coverage.

My god there is a lot of wrong information on these warranties. Do what you wish. I know for me the warranty is useless.

That's my answer and my experience. I'm done.

It's too bad you had that one in a hundred experience. I know that from my experience of working in FORD/LINCOLN/MERCURY service for 18 years. What happened to you was unusual. From working on the other side of counter I would blame in short the person who called claim into FORD ESP, and the tech for not giving that person the proper information to give FORD ESP. The service manager should have worked with you and not against you. He also might have taken advantage of the situation by your age, and assuming you were abusing the car. Which is stupid when dealing with a known complaint.
I'm sorry that you had a crappy experience with the dealer service, this is where FORD needs to clean up thier act.

I appreciate your apology, although the dealer is who should have been apologizing to me. I am a mechanical engineer and an experienced amateur mechanic. I know what I am looking at when I bring a car in, and still ended up getting screwed. This is why I just installed gears myself. I would rather deal with the agony of my trial and error getting the gear run pattern perfect than ever having to go to a dealer again. It hasn't taken too many dealer experiences with Ford for me to strongly consider buying another brand next time.

Like I said FORD has a long way to go with the service end of the dealer

I just got a 6/75 extended warranty and found the lowest price out there.

Its a 100% FORD BRANDED Warranty.

I did survey all the sites and called all the folks suggested by other members (none of whom had the lowest price).

If you want the lead send me a message.

which exact warranty did you buy, name? deductable?, and was your car still under 3/36?
