When my car died on monday I had it towed to King Lincoln Mercuy in Gaithersburg, MD. They ran a diagnostic and said that the fuel pump was bad and it would be $800 to fix, so naturally I declined, got the car towed back home, got a fuel pump and installed it myself. After I got it in I tried to start the car. Fuel was getting to the fuel rail but it wouldnt start. After talking to my father he told me to check the spark plugs because some shops will disconnect one if you choose to decline their services. I thought it was a long shot but I checked the ones on the passenger side since those are the easiest to get to. Then I tried to start it and it ran...............Wait til monday:mad2:

And... You checked them, but you failed to say if any were disconnected.

Are you saying the dealers tech unplugged 4 of your spark plug wires?

no one of them was loose

I think that he is saying that they disconnected at least one spark plug from the passenger side.

I would let the dealer know that I was on to them and never go there again. Also, I would file with the BBB (if possible) and contact Ford.

I am sure that a tech would not do such a thing with orders from above.

Edit: answered while I was typing.

Mmmm. We might want to keep in mind that "loose" may not mean "disconnected". It may be a coincidence. It may be that it took the second attempt at starting to get the fuel pressure up. With a loose or even completely disconnected wire (one of eight), the car should have started. It would have run like hell, but it would have started. Most big V-8s will run on one bank alone let alone seven cylinders.
Just warning you to approach the dealership cautiously as they may not have sabotaged the car. My 2c only.

Why would you think ONE loose sparkplug would keep your car from starting?
Pull 4 off and it will still start, rough but still start.

I too would proceed cautiously on this one.

When replacing the stock coil connectors with the Granatelli's, it was noted how 'loose' the OEM connectors and boots were during removal.

This was not the case with the replacement Granatelli's.

Never have I seen a V8 that would not run on 7 cylinders. Or less.

Good luck on your endeavors, just be very careful.

Mike.

On my dually crew I once changed the plugs. Forgot completely to re-attach a full bank. Hooked up the dyno trailer to move it accross the bridge between cities. Couldn't figure out why it was pulling so hard, and making so much noise (I'm not my best at 6am!). Pulled it over and found that the whole right side was without spark. STILL pulled its 22,000# weight. Rough ride, though. God I can be dense!

The only thing I know is that it wouldnt start after several attempts....then I opened the passenger side cover to access the plug wires. I pressed all four of them down then tried to restarted, and it started right up.

CAM... Capital Area Marauders... generally a loveable mild-mannered bunch of auto enthusiasts seeking peaceful coesistence on the public roadways with all manner of lesser vehicles... but once scorned we become the Capital Area Mobsters and woe be unto the individual or business that dares toy with us... twenty or so 4000 plus pound cars with various stages of performance upgrades ready and able to leave copious amounts of rubber trails on the asphalts of parking lots and driveways... oh yeah... bring it... :fire:

Guys,

I have lived 2 exits north of King LM for the last decade, actually I have lived here longer than King has been there... But that isn’t really important. I have been in and out of that dealership many many times as both a customer and a vendor service provider. In general I have done quite a bit of business with them over the years. For the most part they are as good as any other dealer in the area. Do keep in mind a dealer is not always the best place for general (read non-warranty) repair work. Just my 2¢ worth, but I find it very hard to believe they would do that intentionally. If they did leave the wires off it may have been done accidentally…. I will agree with you they are extremely high on their parts prices, this is why I by parts from Ray Sr. but they are not vengeful. Oh well that is enough pontificating from me, just be really sure before you go stomping in to King and making a big deal out of a basically small issue. BTW Sheey Ford (an SVT dealer) is just down (South) the street from King. Have a great weekend.

You paid the tech to diagnose the driveability problem and give an estimate to repair period.....Part of the dignosis includes checking to make sure you have secondary spark. That is why its loose. After getting a price on the parts the ticket goes back up to the service writer whom calls you for approval. If that rack is needed your car will be pushed out. You declined the work. If I was the tech and I was not getting paid to complete repairs to your car I may not button up everything I took loose when figuring out what was wrong ... $800 is a rip off IMHO.. I'll bet it includes your towing...

We have also been to KLM. We purchased #8 new from them and the sales people were great to work with. The manager even bought a Marauder jacket for me. We only went to the service department for the first oil change using a coupon. The service and techs were great; however we found the service manager rude and not responsive to our comments. Since we don't live in Gaithersburg, we have not been back for serving.

It didnt include the tow. I paid the tow truck out of my pocket.
