My neighbor who has a Black 1970 Monte Carlo says he sprays his front bumper and grill and painted nose area with silcone lubricant when he goes on trips?
Ive used silcone lubricant on leather shoes and hats to waterproof them so this idea seems to have some merit?
He says the bug guts flush away when you take your car to the car wash?I know i have some embedded bugs on my son's 03C/V(our old car)that I could never remove.
I'm thinking of trying this, this summer when we go on vacation?Anyone have any experance or pros or cons on this idea?

Please do tell engine23, cause I'd like to take the MM out East this Summer and I'm anal about the bugs. I'll be stopping at every car wash I see as it is.

Oh yah... oppss... :D
I think if someone was worried about rock chips and wanted one of those bug shields they have for the Vic's, it wouldn't look that bad on a MM.

The MM'S paint is bad enough will the silicone due any harm to the paint ? Although it sounds like a good idea.

I'd be interested in hearing about this too.
white car + bug guts + a drying wind = PITA to clean

my neigbor says it washs right off with a pressure washer and does'nt hurt the paint and the silone lubricant they sell in hardware store is cheap. And if I'm not mistaken alot ok waxes and polishes have silcone in them. But ,to be sure I thought I'd post first because of how smart this site is.May have to try it on my wife's car first.

My buddy installs an invisible shield, I believe it's called invinsa-shield. It's a self-adhesive clear plastic sheet that goes on transparent and protects from rock chips, bugs, etc. I think I'll try it out. He has it on his car and you can't tell it's there unless you are really looking for it.

That's the stuff I had in mind when I read the original post in this thread. Where can you buy this product?

It's made by 3M and not available for retail sale. My buddy does stripes and lettering so he is able to get it wholesale. He will have to make a pattern from my car then he can pre-cut the pieces. I think it comes in a roll about 8-12" wide. Unless the bends in the body are very complex, the stuff will conform and stretch to fit convex and concave areas really well. He's going to do the wife's silver one next week (it's actually gonna be the Guinea pig instead of mine).

I guess I'll just have to strap my ex-wife to the front bumper to keep the bugs off then.

Thanks! Looks like some of the site is still under construction, but I did get some info pertaining to my specific application. My car is GM color Bright White and the site had something to say about that:
How hard is it to see on the car after it is applied?
The material is about 99.5% clear. On any color darker than stark white, you can’t see the film. On a stark white car, you can see that .5% of color, but it still is “invisible” at a short distance.
My color is apparently the worst, LOL. Cost for me would be $130. Not sure if it's worth it at that price for a car that's almost 10 years old. I do appreciate the info though. ;)

The bug shields I've seen come from the deal and are just the black plastic, like the window vent thingies. I suppose you could have it painted though...

What you're thinking of is different than the product in the link. Perhaps it would be worthwhile for you, as the owner of a nice new car, to throw a few bucks into it for the sake of saving your paint job...

Actually, if the bra looks right, I'd take that.
BTW... did we ever get a bra?

i'm not enthused at the idea of spraying silicone on the paint of the car.
Just waxing it well helps a lot.
If you want to spray something on it use PAM LOL

If you use a good wax and do it several times (on the front) this will help. A lot...
