We need some hints.

For instance: Import or domestic (big three)
Family transportation appliance, or cool commuter?:dunno:

Made in the USA.

A Sub-Division of one of the Big 3.

2 Door.

It is an automatic.

It is no longer available (as of recently).

It's big brother IS.

The engine in it, is the middle of 3 options.

Well it was not an '86 GN. :(

If it was Jeep it is no longer a domestic, unless you also consider Toyota a domestic brand.

Also remember the 'Big 3' no longer includes Ford, they were replaced earlier this year by Toyota. The 'Big 3' are now GM, Mercedes and Toyota.

So give us some new hints as your old ones are flawed.

My guess: 1994 Jeep Cherokee.

Perhaps an Oldsmobile of some sort?? I have no idea.

Grand Prix 3800 non supercharged six? I dont know if theyre still making those... It cant be the caddy because now that i think about it they only offered 2 versions of the northstar...

Maybe a trans am or firebird formula with the Ls1 w/o ram air... It would make sense if by big brother you mean GTO. Im running out of guesses!

3rdcoastmrauder,

Ford Pintos are great little cars. I took my driver's test in a '74 Pinto Wagon. They got a bad rap from a Monty Python movie. :)

Yup....I ended up getting this car for $400.

Been doing normal tune up stuff today. The Overheating IS NOT a stuck thermostat :( It is, in fact, a blown head gasket. Once I pulled the plugs out, I can see anti-freeze in Cylinder #1.

I just got back from the parts store w/ a complete Top End Gasket Kit and a set of new Head Bolts.

The lady I bought it from really was being on the negative side for the car's description. She felt she had to point out EVERY little issue w/ EVERYTHING! The car is in really good shape, considering it is almost 20 years old. The interior does need a good cleaning. The paint needs a good washing, and a claying would not hurt. The tires are better than expected. All of the electronic doo-dads work. The engine bay is relatively clean....except for the anti-freeze ;)

If you have not figured it out.....this IS my MM's replacement.....for winter :D I just did not want the MM in all the bad crap here when it snows.

So far, I have about $200 in the gaskets and tune up stuff. So.....for about $600, I think I am going to have a decent little beater

That would be a little impossible since none of them were sold to the public. There is one left that exists, and it resides at the Corvette museum in KY. The rest were used to work out the bugs for the new C4 line, and then destroyed.

I believe I've seen that car before. I was at the musuem last March. I wish I would have known that tid-bit of information while I was there (might have been a sign mentioning so I can't remember.) And the portion of the building that houses it is, definately different.

Good luck with it. Is it really a Quad 4????? I didn't think those were out in '88. I would be it's an Iron Duke 2.5l.

I thought it was the very early nineties before the 16v DOHC quad 4 came out.

Anyway, good luck w/ it!

Nope....it is DEFINATLEY a Quad 4 DOHC.

It actually appears to have a "tuned" Intake and Exhaust Manifolds. Very interesting little engine.

I had i beleve it was a 92 GrandAm Quad 4 When i bought it it had 143k Miles on it The guy i had got it from at the time had just had the head gasket replaced Guess the was a common problem with those engines. i had the car a few months then grew out of it and into the MM... :D.. Good luck and Enjoy.

This is VERY true.

I just had a local Mechanic who does side work over. He quoted me $600 labor to replace the Gasket.

Local Pontiac quoted $1100 + parts.

A Marathon Garage just said to screw it, and buy a whole other engine

It looks like my uncle and I will be hitting this Feb 10 & 11.

Wish up luck!!!

An ex-girlfriend of mine had an '88 Grand Am a few years back, though hers was the base 4cyl, not the quad 4. It was falling apart, but the sucker had 230K miles on it. Not bad for an American economy car...
