I know that the big majority of MM.Net are providing their MM with a nice space in their garage. You (and me too) probably spent quite a lot of $ for keeping your MM "on top" (S/C, badges, etc) and you even drive it sometimes to the track. All that is great for FORD, as it means that one of their model generates interest and "passion".

Now, I assume that many of you have ANOTHER car, which might be the one that you or your wife drives on a daily base, or a "classic" car, or just another car...

My question is : is it a FORD (or Mercury-Lincoln). And if it is not a FORD, why did you go for another brand ?

My wife drives a black 2000 mustang GT convertible. Prior to that it was a 1993 Lebaron convertible. Her rule after driving the first convertible is that we always have to own at least ONE convertible. Mainly coincidence that we ended up with a mustang vert. Good price, good condition when we were toying with the idea ofupgrading erh to a newer vert. I am not Ford specific, but prefer cars with domestic nameplates.

The Marauder and the Mustang are definitely the most fun modern cars we have ever owned.

(which I bought mainly because the Ford Explorer only came with the anemic 4.0L cam-in-block V6 at the time I purchased the truck. The Vortec 4.3 V6 was a lot better.)

Plus I own a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT wagon.
As I mentioned in another post/thread ('07 Toyota Tundra...), I went looking for an all season station wagon and the domestic offerings were non-existant.
(Ford Focus was not even considered due to low HP engine and lack of all wheel drive.)

I don't see any new Ford's that interest me except for the Dealer Surcharge/Rape Shelby GT500.

P.S. I have owned for quite some time, and unfortunately still own, LOTS of FORD stock.

I have the same "couple", but my MGM is a LSE 2003. The MGM is currently under "light tuning" process : cold air induction & SCT Calibrator from Dennis Reinhart.

My wife has a Subaru Impreza Outback. Good car in Quebec for someone who does not enjoy cars neither driving, as it features that famous and efficient symetric 4 x 4 system. Lots of drawbacks, though : drinks more gas than my MGM, noisy, very expensive in maintenance and aging much quicker than any of my Mercury's

I bought the MM as my regular 4 door driver car. I have a garaged retro-mod EFI vintage camaro. MM stays outside at the moment. Between my brother and I we have a hand ful of old V8 2 door cars that the engine build type stuff is done on. I already have so much budgeted for the vintage cars that they will keep me busy for a long time. I am trying not to do anything too drastic to the MM. I don't think I'd want a car this big to be running 12s, I'd take out people on the sidewalk with it. Me = dangerous. Me + fast car = more dangerous. Me + fast hugemongous car = most dangerous. I think it goes something like that.

The wife has an '02 Grand Am GT 4 Door. We carpool to work in this car. She works 3 miles from me. It works out well.

I just purchased an '88 Grand AM LE 2 Door. This will be my winter beater so the MM never sees snow or crappy weather. Or....if either one of us get a new job to where we can no longer carpool ;)

Why the Grand Am's? In MY experience, it you treat one right....they will return the favor :up:

I bought a 2006 Ford Mustang GT 5-speed. Got tired of the choppy ride, notchy shifter, and clunky suspension. Sold it with 563 miles on it and bought the Daytona. I'm much happier.

My Marauder is new-to-me, and it took me almost 2 years to find it. I couldn't afford them when they were new. It will be a keeper.

I went to the St. Louis Auto Show last weekend. Ford had absolutely NOTHING on display that I had any interest in. And the rocket scientist that made the decision to plaster huge chrome grilles on all their new products should be shot :down: :shake:

On the other hand, the new Challenger looked awesome, and will most likely be my next purchase. Sorry, Ford, but you've lost it and I don't see you getting it back anytime soon.

As I've mentioned before, our last six cars were Panthers. The worst repair on any of them was a timing cover on the '85 LTD CV at around 80,000 mi. The darned thing was leaking oil from the gasket. I still know the whereabouts of the old CV's. They're both running strong and have a gazillion miles on them. The '89 Marquis LS was sold to a stranger and haven't seen it since. That car was the odd man out. It just wasn't as nice as the other cars. My wife hated that car!

Besides the cars in my sig, we still have our '96 Marquis. That car had no repairs in the 65,000+ miles we've owned it except the pass.'s front window regulator - $54.00. Bought it with 14,553 mi. on it. Did brakes once, tires once, and a serpentine belt once. The thing will still pop out 28+mpg on the highway! Car doesn't owe me a dime!

When I get chastised about driving an old man's car, I ask, "What car would you have suggested I buy in 2004?". I have a feeling when the Vic is done, I'll be looking for another one!

I haven't driven it in a while because it won't pass Maryland's exhaust emmissions testing...no tags!
It will be exempt from testing when it is 25 years old. (Yikes!!! I've owned it for 22 years!!!:eek: )
It is sitting in my garage awaiting a 392 Windsor stroker motor once I quit spending all my 'modding' money on the Marauder.

I too was at the St. Louis Auto Show if that's what you call it. I 100% agree with you. I think the Challenger will likely be my next purchase depending on initial cost. At least "after" I find a Marauder for a Daily Driver. I drive a 2006 Toyota Xrunner and my Wife and Dogs drive a PT Cruiser.

I just passed VA emissions in October... It's always a chore every two years. I just put coated shorty headers, stainless h-pipe with high flow cats and 3" Flowmaster outlaw bullet style mufflers and 3" ss tail pipes. It sounds pretty ridiculous... I like it though:cool: ... I barely drive it anymore. I am focusing on the MM as well. Prior to the exhaust in December it sat for 3 months except for the emissions BS. Who is doing the 392? 25 years isn't very far for either of us... It's about time for a mean big cam 347 for mine... Enjoy!

We've switched from GM to Ford but I suspect it'll drift back one of these days...mainly due to Ford's lack of exciting options and the one-heck-of-a-cool ride I got in a S/C'ed CTS-V about a month ago. (Marauder isn't going anywhere, but that was a cool car!)

Anyway, I've got my Marauder and a 1990 Mustang GT with 201k miles. It's mostly stock, original engine and 5spd trans. I drive it to work right now.

I also have a 1965 Triumph Spitfire but it's hardly in any shape to be counted as much, I'm awaiting a garage to do the body work in - of which it needs ALOT of panel replacement.

High-C you should come out to some Northern VA Mustang Club events if you're around the area and not in OC. Bring the 'stang out.

Ford has a tendency to perfect something and then kill the line..eg MM, 87-88 T-Bird turbo. Other than the GT and new Mustang, Ford can't seem to design anything that's stylish. However, I have always been impressed with the quality Ford puts into it's interiors and options (eg keyless entry, nice leather, positioning of switches, fit and finish...). My MM is the only Ford product that I've owned other than the 88 Turbo....due mostly to styling issues. My folks had two CVs (including a 2-door 1981...cool!!!) and a van.

I generally like to stay with Ford if I can find something interesting which is mighty hard these days. I'm not in the market for anything right now but it would almost certainly be one of the US Big 3. When my wife picked out the Acura I did suggest she look at the Lincoln LS but she wasn't much interested.

-2003 Mercury Marauder - only (running) car I own
-1979 Chevy Malibu - my first car, drove 9/96 to 1/01, currently in storage and awaiting resurrection

Previously had:
-1991 Ford LTD Crown Victoria LX - bought 3/01 after the Malibu stopped running, totaled due to engine fire 8/01. Too bad, I liked that car and it was in great shape...
-1991 Honda Accord - bought 9/01, sold to dad 10/02. He's still driving it with 195K on the clock. Boring, but reliable transportation and good mileage.
-1982 Chevy Malibu - bought 10/02, sold 11/04. Cheap ($800) and I like Malibus, but this one was a V6 and slooooooow. Plus the A/C didn't work.
-1996 Lincoln Mark VIII - bought 10/04, totaled in accident 10/06. I loved this car, and would still be driving it had it not met its untimely end. I will have another VIII someday, but I wanted something newer (and with a warranty) as my daily...

My ownership history does show a Ford preference, but that has mostly been what I was able to find that I liked and within my usually limited price range on the used market. I don't feel too much loyalty to any brand...after the VIII was gone, before buying the MM I test drove an Acura TL-S, Infiniti G35, Audi A4, Audi A6, Lincoln LS, and Mazda 6s (2001-2004 range). I set a hard limit of 20K so I couldn't have gotten anything I liked new. Even the "good" compacts, i.e. VW GTI, Mazdaspeed 3, Chevy Cobalt SS, Saturn Ion redline, are over 20 (plus the Cobalt SS's rear spoiler is hideous).

But as far as Ford goes, really the only thing they make that I like right now is the Mustang. Nothing else does anything for me. If the MKS shows up in Lincoln dealerships not much changed from what we see in concept, I would be interested. But I probably wouldn't be able to afford it. :) I hope they'll turn it around because I'd hate to see the company that gave us the Mustang, Thunderbird, and of course the Marauder go away, but...their product line needs help. I still say the first and easiest change would be to make a hotrod version of the Fusion. It's basically a Mazda 6 chassis, no? Give it forced induction and AWD...275-300 hp...a few subtle body tweaks...and you have the spiritual successor to the Taurus SHO. Wouldn't take that much R&D money. Why not?

So far, the feedback seems very positive for FORD. Many of us are FORD "die hard", many others came to FORD after having been driving all kinds of brands, even ricers. That shows that the potential for the brand is still preserved and it is now up to FORD to keep on maintaining attraction and passion. Let us hope that the existing gap will not last too long. It is now time for the brand to recover its identity rather than trying fighting in the dull garden of Camry's.

I came to FORD recently while my father has been the satisfied owner of 3 "Fiesta's, a little european made car. So far, I love my Mercury's and I would be ready to buy another one after my current MGM is over - I drive it approximately 40 K miles /year...
But I do strongly hope that FORD will make the Interceptor.

Since Ford doesn't have enough problems, their dealers are doing their best to run customers off. They have made me mad enough that when they finally close the plant that my brother-in-law works in, I may never buy another Ford product. Other than my Corvette, it's been years since I've bought anything but a Ford product. Their dealers are doing their damnest to force me to buy from someone else........anyone else would be easier to do business with!

I couldn't agree more on the dealers running off the loyal Ford customers. I got so PO'ed with the dealers greed when trying to find a GT, I ended up w/an 05' C6. Then attempting to pick up a Shelby the same dealer greed got me to up grade to 07' C6.
A friend of mine paid 15K over sticker for a GT500 last month and he thinks his modded 03' Cobra is a better all around ride.
Ford does produce some very good cars but they come up short in the marketing of the performance stuff. The GT for example was produced for two years. If they would continue production they would sell every one built and the available inventory would actually make the car more affordable. Dealer greed would subside and us Ford guys would feel like family again.

We owned my baby and a 2001 Windstar. Never a bigger piece of crap has been manufactured than the Windstar. We replaced the wife's minivan with a 2004 Honda that we got for a great price. The Ford did have more intuitive computer gadgets, layout and interior space. Unfortunately, they all wore out way before they should have.

Ford just doesn't seem to understand what people want in a car right now. Quality and reliability. People are willing to pay more for the Hondas and Toyotas because they do last longer and require fewer annoying trips to the shop.

I'm keeping my baby, but if all the systems start to break at 75,000 miles, I'll have to let her go.
