:mad2: I put my 04 MM in the shop to have the rotors turned and when I got it back I noticed a "clank" each time I took off from a dead stop. The dealer claimed the rear end clutch's were bad because I was running 255/55/18 on the rear, well they overhauled the rear end, noice still there, they replaced the upper and lower control arms, noise still there, they ordered some fancy gun to heat up a glue because they said the agitator in the frame had come loose, well needless to say noise still there. It's comming from the driver side rear wheel area and only does it when I take off from dead stop. Can anybody help?

I was trained by L/M to have an assistant drive while you ride in the trunk listening for said noise...

there is a TSB for this..it is a cracked frame, they will have to weld, and add foam ect...I will send you the TSB# in about an hour...when I get to work.

Could this have happen because of improper lifting of the car?

The Tsb Is 04-4-1...no I Don't Think This Could Happen From Lifting The Car..not Sure What Would Cause This..it's Most Popular In Cabs Ect..you Would Almost Think That The Faster Marauders Would Be More Likly To Have This Problem But I've Not Heard That As A Case From The Rest Of The Mm Owners....i Have A Cab In The Shop Now Waiting To Get This Done(left Rear)....there Is Different Levels Of Severity, needs To Be Checked Out...the Noise Is Very Annoying.

If you only noticed it after they did a rotor turn then it is probably related to that. Make sure nothing is rolling around in the trunk, that they did not drop a tool in the inner trunk area when turning off air ride switch, loose caliper mounting bolts, something in the parking brake assy, tool fell in rear frame (socket or something), broken center cap tabs or something else simple but overlooked.

Thanks for the info Chader, how do I get to a TSB, and my MM got a whole new frame in september 05, could the new one be cracked and why would'nt the dealer tell me it was cracked.

It's not easy to see the crack or what ever needs to be done according to the TSB..your dealer will have to look for it.I would not say this is common but a good guess from your description.Ask your dealer to check(04-4-1 TSB)to see if it is a possibility??I have mostly seen this on extended limo frames and cabs...so I would guess excessive weight may be a probable cause??The description( It's comming from the driver side rear wheel area and only does it when I take off from dead stop. Can anybody help?)is exactly what I've seen.Good luck and let me/us know how it goes...just ask if the TSB would be applicable to your veh,I'm sure they would love to find the problem as much as you.

Wasn't that TSB for the older frames and not the newer hydroformed ones?

I'm sure there is a site some place the public can check, allthough your dealer should be able to tell you if your veh falls into that catigory

03-up Panthers use the hydroformed steel chassis. That means 03-up Vics, Marauders, Grand Marquis, and Town Cars.

79-02 had the standard style frames.

Hey Chader, just wanna say thanks for the TSB. I took my car to the dealer here in GA and they claim that was the work they performed. They will now calla ford engineer to see if the frame needs to be replaced. I have 2 hairline cracks by the way, will keep you all posted.

Where exactly are the hair line cracks. I had my car at the dealer last Sept. for a similar noise and they said it was the brakes, and i have 55000 KM.
thanks Rusty
