Bought a great "beater".

I have had the idea of getting a second car for a few hundred bucks. I want to keep the Marauder in the garage during the week. I looked at a $1200.00 Mazda truck that needed paint and tires. Looked at a $900.00 Nissan Sentra that needed a clutch. I have wanted something decent, a fixer upper but not apparently a POS with a hopeless list of needs. Found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130076247502 and bought it TODAY. It is less than a half mile from my shop and I am sure I can make it run again. His son was "trying" to install a stereo system and now the car cranks but won't start. I got a heck of a deal but I may have to do some serious troubleshooting. What 'cha all think??

If it's cranking maybe it's not gettin power to the coil... not sure how he would have shorted that...

Mitsubishis are great beaters. They tend to be reliable and the resale value is terrible. That makes them perfect winter cars.

I had a 2000 Impala and I was installing a stereo system in it as well. When I got the amp and the box working, the car wouldnt start and it made me nervous, It wouldnt crank, it would do anything and the sercurity light was on. turned out that the radio was linked to the ECU of the car and I had to make sure the amp was properly grounded to the battery or frame of the car to make it work. Check the grounds of the aftermarket stereo, If he just used a post or a metal plate as a ground, that may be the issue.
If not, just go through your routine checks, (fuel pump, relays, coils,)

I was handed a 96 Saab 900SE for nothing from a neighbor that wouldnt start as well, It was a bad fuel pump. After replacing that and putting new tires on the car, Its running great and keeping mileage off my Marauder.
